I’m looking for objects to get started with – most likely along the theme of 40k or AoS, though I’d stop short of models that are copies of a Land Raider etc..
I saw a few interesting items on kickstarter relating to bloodbowl scenery that I’m considering getting.
Any suggestions would be great!
July 27, 2018 at 10:05 pm #1241006anything by printable scenery, but most cost money. They do have some free items on their site you can try. They also have some scenery items that are good substitutes for some of the special sigmar terrain.
You can find alot free on thingiverse: look up “terrain4print”, you will find a lot of excellent stuff

July 27, 2018 at 10:13 pm #1241008hey @craigwrdouglas welcome to the world of 3D printing 🙂
Once you are all set up and going you will find that there are a wealth of models available on thingiverse if you want to smash out a few test pieces and see what works for you. I’m personally a big fan of the work the guys at Printable Scenery do, some of their models are free to download so you can get a feel for what they are like before buying anything. That said, I haven’t seen any 3d designs which I would consider to be overpriced, I find the Printable Scenery stuff great value and have backed several Kickstarters for them and other creators, and all has worked out OK. Imperial Terrain is worth checking out if you are looking at getting into Star Wars Legion.
Re 40k alternates there are plenty of generic sci-fi tanks out there, wheeled APC’s etc that would look great on the battlefield. Plus flyers, scatter terrain, pipes, platforms and assorted sci-fi gizmos etc. I only recall seeing one Blood Bowl printed terrain KS (link below), but there may be a bunch of stuff out there that I haven’t seen as I haven’t gone looking for it.
Best of luck! Hope the printer arrives soon 🙂

I’d wanted the meso dice tower, but I think it’s resin / kickstarter only 🙁
I might cycle back or look at the Dwarf or Skaven ones they do.

Printable Scenery does look good, I’ll definitely come back to them.
I’ve spent a bit of time on the thingiverse site , and have a few items for testing.
I also found a 3d object for the space exploration vehicle from Nasa, so I want to print that to go with the cosmica terrain.

Every building vehicle and gun have been 3d printed. If you are in doubt about every buying files, to print, I think this answers it. You can make tables you could only ever wish to make, and never afford to buy. Best decision I ever made getting a 3d printer.
July 31, 2018 at 2:51 pm #1242939I went for this from Prinable scenery –
Just about all the major parts are coming in at 6 hours + each – looks like it will take a week or two to get the first building done – is this typical of print times, or is there something in the settings that can be done to speed things up?
I got a door and a piece of floor done last night – not a lot so far, but that’s progress I guess….

July 31, 2018 at 3:20 pm #1242980@craigwrdouglas good choice. Like many others have mentioned, printablescenery does really great models. When I was new to 3D printing, I was happy to know when something went wrong, it was not caused by the model.
accoring time to print: the biggest factor is usually the layer height you defined to use. For building I usually use .2mm. If all other settings are fine, that should give a nice print. Only for parts with diagonals (like roofs) I sometimes switch to .1mm.
Another relevant setting is of course the speed that you define. When I started I set that to a lower level than necessary. You should play around with that setting a bit and see what your printer can handle. It took me a while to understand that slow is sometimes worse than fast. For example when you print overhangs like over doors or windows.
finally: you might soon discover the printer is faster than your painting. At least that is true for me. And after some time your collection will grow to an amazing size.
have fun!
July 31, 2018 at 5:17 pm #1243066Good choice of supplier of files. I have a lot of theirs. It is a slow progress but well worth it. I print all my buildings at 0.2, where you can save time is infill. I do most at 10%, but have been known to print a simple roof with 0 infills. That alone can save you ages. same with a brim or not to brim? That is the question. For some, I do some I don’t, depending on the footprint of the base. Keep letting us know how it is going. I’m new to this and learn something new every day. like today I was having a fluctuation in the printing temperature. I found out that that in my calibration settings I can check the PID and after that no more issues.

August 5, 2018 at 11:24 am #1246638Another huge vote for Printable Scenery https://www.printablescenery.com/ I love their kits especially that they also cater to people with small print beds like in my Flash Forge Finder printer.
Look out for bundle deals, I picked up their entire Winterdale range for not much money.
Other sources for me are
