….be prepared for a Regt of Queens Rangers with EVERY infantry sprue (given Warlord track record on unit selection for the sprues) 😀

To me SYW probably would have been a more practical choice (as there’s a lot of Regt specific uniforms in the AWI), but AWI is probably more recognisable to new gamers to the period and would have a lot more traction in the US.

    SYW would have been cooler.

Hopefully we can also do SYW, I assume they will target it mostly at the AWI but hopefully they do what they did with Pike and Shotte and release boxes that work for both conflicts.

That would be plausible. Pike and Shotte did work well for both ECW and TYW.

For AWI, I’m curious to see how they handle First Nations miniatures – might be interesting, as a Canadian, eh?

The Queen’s York Rangers (QYRang) are perpetuated in a Canadian armoured reconnaissance regiment. There were two on my basic armoured officer course.

Yup, but with them going for AWI s the main focus, you’ve got British and American units initially (possibly French and Spanish later), but no Austrians and no heavy Cav units etc. But I am hoping they do just line infantry for the main sprues and don’t add daft minor units onto the sprues (like having Rifles on the main sprues when you only need  2 or 3 for the 100 days so you end up with a LOT more than you need). I’m also hoping they don’t do half in warrant and half in campaign dress (a bit like they did with half the Nap French line being in full dress and half in greatcoats). Warlord also like to add units that may look “kewl” onto their sprues, but the realistic possibility of them being fielded on the battlefield is low to non existent (some of the French units on the Guard sprues).

They put a lot of effort into making mechanics and battles feel engaging and realistic, just like this one, with a lot of different units and variations to choose from

The main thing is to keep the base casts balanced, not overloaded with unnecessary units.

I love what Warlord do with the Epic series, I would love to see some biblical eras covered with mass chariots.

I’d also say that this wasn’t exactly a surprise as one of their next options for this scale.

What will be interesting is which era they’re going to add after this one.

Something biblical / ancient that isn’t Rome?

Surely Warlord isn’t the first company to have done this at a similar scale ?
OTOH … the thing being plastic and attached to a name that’s more or less familliar to anyone not too deep into historicals is going to help them a lot.

I doubt those getting into this aren’t too bothered by the options given to them by Warlord.

(it will be interesting to see what Wargames Atlantic are going to do in the future, because they may be competing for the same type of audience )
