Why is Hero quest so great?
I got it for Christmas one year when I was still in junior school.
Easy enough to learn as a kid, but far more to it than “normal” board games I had played up until then such as Game of Life, Monopoly and what was that one where you rolled a skull down a tower?
I’ve been playing board games, card games, RPG’s and minis games ever since playing Heroquest and really have to think “how different would my life have been had I not got this game for Christmas” Would I still have got into “the hobby”
P.S @brennon should do a Burrow and Badgers video in the style of the Heroquest Guy :p

Back in day I had so much fun playing Heroquest with my friends. Lot of things happened like my elf going trough wall to chamber were great hero’s grave was.

August 2, 2018 at 4:17 pm #1244199For me, it was Space Crusade. Gateway into miniatures gaming in general.
These days, there are tons of good dungeon crawlers. Off the top of my head- Zombicide, Super Dungeon, Shadows of Brimstone, Descent (app only), Imperial Assault, Sword and Sorcery, Gloomhaven, Journey, Stuffed Fables, Widower’s Wood, WQ: Silver Tower and Kingdom Death Monster (ok, that last one is only kind of/sort of DC).
I’m not sure how many of those might have come into existence had there been no Heroquest, though.
August 26, 2018 at 6:34 pm #1257896Had I not played Hero Quest at a friends house I would probably never have gotten its companion game Space Crusade myself. And without that I might not ever have ended up in this hobby. They both filled their roles as gateway games superbly.
And I am still a bit sad I never got my own copy of Hero Quest.

I wonder if they’ll ever bring this back as Fantasy property now that Assassinorum is a thing.
