The Chinese Warring States Of Watchful I Get To Prototype Stage
February 3, 2015 by brennon
Watchful I Studio have put together a little gallery of their Chinese Warring States soldiers and they're looking pretty neat even at this early stage of production as 3D prints...
Above you can see the General, Officer and Heavy Infantry options right now that have a neat look of the Terracotta army about them. This is just a taster of what is coming as well with loads of additional weapons, heads and more being there for you to play around with and customise.
Here's some additional miniatures for the rank and file as well which include spearmen, crossbowmen and regular archers to bring the pain to whatever force decides to stand against them. It might not be the most dynamic looking set of miniatures out there but then the uniformity of it all kind of fits into the Chinese style.
Chariots are next on the cards so look out for those!
What do you think?

They are looking rather well done so far
Should look good when massed up in ranks
ps you don’t have to paint them all terracotta and bury them on the garden do you? lol
Damn… beat me to it @chibi lol. First thing I thought of!
They look great and I always found this period to be really interesting too.
Warring States period does give some interesting potential for historical gaming.
Wonder how many will be on the sprue/in the box. I’d love to buy some, but not 20-30…
Dear people at Watchful I Studio, if you go on Kickstarter with this set, please make a “just-one-sprue” pledge. 🙂
Looking good. May look strange to some people if all the archers are left handed though (and I’m left handed myself).
By the looks of it the weapon arm is optional so all the weapons have to be on the same side of the torso.
would like to see some “heroes” or leaders with more animated poses.
Forgive my ignorance, but are these definitely going to be hard plastic?
If so, then that’s great news- one of my favourite video game series was Dynasty Warriors, and I always fancied recreating some of the over-the-top stuff that went on in those games on the tabletop- ok, it might not be realistic but the idea of a powerful individual hero leading an army while wading through hordes of minions might make for a fun game- maybe using a variant of the Hordes/Warmachine (or perhaps Saga?) system?
Awesome. I read the article and checked out the site . . . does anyone know what scale these would be? 28mm? These larger scales seem great for ancients since the ranges and movements of units are naturally much shorter and painters get more opportunity to customize different houses / factions / commanders, etc.
Oh, and nice one, @chibi . 😀
Wow is all I can say. I can’t wait to see any other stuff they do for the Qins. 😀
These look really, really nice. I seem them as possibly volunteering to represent some eastern / Rhunish faction that has come under the sway of Sauron in the War of the Ring!
Awesome ! A underrepresented part of historical gaming. The lore is pretty rich of conflicts.
Hey guys. You have some really nice comments and I appreciate the enthusiasm and excitement for our range. I would like to address the questions all in one response.
1. The range will be in 28mm
2. The range will be initially be released in metal and if we raise enough money in our Kickstarter then we will transition things into plastic (infantry are first).
3. We have a few surprises planned for the range that will include more heroes and even a fantasy element!!!!
4. The weapon options were placed on one side for simplicity in sculpting and production work. Since they are marching we are using the ‘excuse’ that archers would carry their bow in their dominant hand. 🙂 If we consider adding more ‘action’ poses to the range we would make sure they were firing the bow right-handed.
Like us on Facebook and we will continue to post updates until our Kickstarter goes live on Monday, March 23 at 12pm EST (5pm GMT)
Thanks again for the support and wonderful feedback.
