Building With John - 88 Anti-Air/Anti-Tank Artillery Gun

We stop in with John to find out what he's been building up today. The first of these is one of the tricky Artillery kits which is coming out for 4th Edition.

This is a gorgeous piece but it will take some time and patience to get right. So, dive in and follow along.

Seems like a rather simple but effective build. Im still teetering on whether or not to use the plastic 88’s in europe or the desert though.

Looks like John ran into the classic problem of lacking a third hand

How does this plastic kit compare to the old metal ones?

The plastics are great…lots of nice, sharp clean detail…the feel is different than metal. Battlefront plastics feel a little heavier than other plastics which is very nice

Man, I would hate to draw the short straw and ride in the lead tank..

Simple kit but small and you kinda need 3 hands at one point so I suggest one of the small hobby clamps, like a mini vice that has rubber over the jaws – lock the gun in there and that frees your hands for the bisiness of getting the mount assembled.
the 88 first saw use in the AT and direct fire support role in the Spanish Civil War – those were the early Flak 18’s and lessons learned there brought about the improved Flak 36.

This is such an iconic weapon of WWII.
It is a bit fiddly but they are very nice plastic kits.
