Calling A Close To The Flames Of War D-Day Boot Camp

That’s it for the Flames of War D-Day Boot Camp. It has been a fantastic weekend of building, painting, and, of course, gaming.

Thanks to everyone who came and took part, and to everyone who has been following our progress on the Live Blog too.

As we wrap up, it is important we take a moment to look back on the history of Normandy and what happened in a time where the world lost track of its sanity.

Its pretty cool to have a meaningful bootcamp. Thanks to all the veterans who have given us our freedoms at great personal sacrifice. i think I could do a better job at honoring their sacrifice in both the the way I live my life and the way I wargame. As silly as it may seem to outsiders, it’s a great way to connect with our shared history and greater appreciate it. Thanks OTT for a great weekend of content!

Both a great hobby event to be part of and very touching, sobering moment in time to learn more about what these men and women went through. Thank you to everyone involved in making it happen.

What a poignant song to bring home the realities of what those men had the courage to face for our future.
I haven’t “played” world war 2 since the late 60’s – early 70’s with Airfix HO-OO plastic models and 1/72 army boxes of commandoes, infantry and parachutists and all the kits of the time. It has always seemed a bit too close to home especially as I come from the Portsmouth area. This weekend has really brought back some great memories of my childhood and a different perspective. I have spent a lot of time at the D Day museum and Bovington in the past and I think now might be the time to get those tanks and tiny soldiers back on the table top. Thanks for a great weekend.

If you guys get a chance to donate to the Normandy Memorial please do so. This game of ours that we play is great and brings a lot of us together but in this day and age some of the current generation may not really grasp the sacrifices our grandparents or great grandparents made both men and women. The focus is more on Iraq and Afghanistan right now. My grandfather fought in the Pacific and my grandmother worked in a factory to help the war effort while raising 2 young children. Being an Army vet myself who was deployed to Bosnia in the mid to late 90’s, this type of cause to pay tribute to a generation of heroes is something we should all consider.
Thanks for putting on a great 3 days of entertainment guys.
