Justin Gets Some Paint Onto His PHR Fleet

Justin sits down with suetoniuspaulinus from the community to paint up his PHR fleet and get some additional colour onto these ships before getting in a game or two.

If you have any tips for Justin or indeed thoughts on how you'd paint your own fleet get them in the comments below.

Maybe Justin should paint a few ships red and a few orange that way he can have the fruit basket fleet.

what Justin needs to do is add a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream, some double whipped cream and some chocolate sauce.

I like the paint scheme.
I think the other colours being functional or metallic sounds good to me.
I’d like to see some white elements too. A ring of white around the barrel of any larger guns or on any hydraulic / mechanical pieces that are likely to move could look good.

At first I was blinded by the yellow, but it’s grown on me — been looking for a good, easy color scheme for my PHR fleet… Perhaps I’ve found it? πŸ˜›

Honestly @dignity, rather than knock it all back with a metallic wash, I’d keep the yellow panels as they are and instead do some choice weathering on them.

A) Some smart weathering will knock the overall vibrance down, whilst also really bringing out the weathering with a bright base.

B) They’re PHR, I know most want them clean, but man oh man those ships would look freaking amazing with some worn plates ect. Not too much ofc, but just enough to show they’ve skimmed the upper levels of planetary atmosphere and caught some heat.

C) You got a bunch of talented dudes with you, if you’re not confident enough on weathering those panels without wrecking the look, get some of the blokes to help you man. I think you’d love the results.

the darker areas on the broadside should really tone this fleet down and balance the ships

For Justin: Get some blue markings on your ships. You could use a system of different shapes to differentiate between different ships of the same class or even between your battlegroups. A friend of mine uses that for his PHR troops in DZC and it works quite well.

For me: I will start UCM as soon as my gaming group gets into it and my ships will get the same green with silver colour scheme than my groundtroops are getting now. And most likely they will get giant numbers on them too, just to remember easily which ship belongs to which battlegroup. Some people seem to prefer having different colour schemes for their fleet assets and their ground troops for UCM, I don’t like that.

Wash them with Army Painter Soft tone and that will pop the detailing, but not ruin the yellow… I like the yellow…

Justin’s QVC voice is a laugh, he does it so well

I liked his choice of colour, a good break from all the greys and blacks, so nice bright colours on the Shaltari and Scourge
