Operation Crusader Day One Campaign Wrap Up

We’re closing in on the end of the day and find out how things have been doing with Oriskany and his campaign.

Things have been going very well and…for once…actually accurate to History. With Warren in close proximity everything can sometimes be askew but in this case, it looks like the British are putting the German to the sword.

@warhammergrimace – indeed this campaign started off freakishly well for the British. Then again, the last desert war Boot Camp saw the exact same thing ….

@rot6 – how about something in the Projects? If I set up a campaign in the projects and then people dropped recommendations and comments where they reported their results, driving new updated campaign maps – would that interest you and your local group?

i think if you are the one “behind it all” there would be a lot of ppl interested in playing matches within such a campaign. It might not even end up system restricted because its rather straight forward if you had a platton, company, devision level game.

If it were say D-Day and onwards in france to germany ppl could even play pc games like coh and steel devision to drive the campaign. most of those games allow for some kind of total, major, minor win descriptions

“it might not even end up system restricted …” This is actually exactly what we did with Worldwide D-Day Challenge back in 2015. People could play whatever system they wanted (within reason), and we had 39 players in 19 games, spread across 8 countries, and completely rewrote the history of Operation Overlord on June 6, 2015.

Thanks, @dane001.
Sounds awesome, @patrickkyle82! Like I was saying above, would a campaign run through the OTT / BoW Projects system work well enough for you?

@oriskany I don’t see why not! If there’s ever one going I’d have to see if I could jump in. I’m pretty new to the Projects system so I’m not sure how it would work

@patrickkyle82 – Talking with the guys about the possibility (I stress POSSIBILITY) of live streams – maybe one a week just for updates just for updates on how the campaign is going. Basically I would start a project with a big honkin’ campaign map, anyone who wanted to join could just drop a comment. Or we could start a side thread in the forums – that might be better so players could also post their own pics and battle reports.

Yeah I would be interested for sure. I’ll keep my eyes open!

Ah I wish I could join in this campaign so badly. This is what I imagined when I first started getting into bolt action, but I’ve yet to get to experience. Lovely work there guys!

@dukeexeter – we ran something similar in 2015 called the WWDDC – Worldwide D-Day Challenge, where we had 31 players in 19 games (some players were in more than one game) in eight countries hammer out wargames in whatever system them wanted on June 6, 2015. Of course this was commemorating the D-Day Overlord anniversary.

Bolt Action was definitely our biggest game system.

Thanks, @wilco92.

The British are coming

@bennu and @lawnor – So far we have Martin with his Black Watch standing tall against the 90th Light Division up at Tobruk, while 7th Armoured Division makes excellent progress up towards them. Can they make the link-up?

This campaign map really ads to the flavor of the Boot Camp a lot, great work @oriskany!

The Germans may have fire superiority with the machine guns…. but the British have tea, and tea wins battles.

Thanks, @shoop77 – and yes, @collins, we cannot forget the +6 bonus on a d6 dice that tea provides. 😀

Nice to follow along with this higher level view – it really ties the games together in a way that’s hard to achieve in a regular club environment.

Go Desert Rats!

Thanks very much, @georgesealy . It’s a shame more clubs don’t host these kinds of events.

Indeed, @khy0te – the Desert Rats are doing great so far!

@radegast6 – good call on the Commonwealth, we must remember that 2 of the 4 British wins so far have been delivered by Indian / Sikh troops.

How do you know it’s going to be close, @zorg – did you skip ahead? Watch these boot camp campaigns before? Or can you really see into the future? 😀
