The Low Down On Steamforged’s New Resident Evil Board Game

Justin stopped in with Alex from Steamforged Games to talk about their new board game for Resident Evil!

The game is looking great and as we showed in the gallery on Day One they have made this demo based on the demo from the video game - which is pretty awesome and meta!

We think this is going to be pretty big!

Not long ago I’d have said “Nah! – Resident Evil… not my thing!” and something about dodgy license conversions…

But although I may have said something similar about Dark Souls I decided to give it a punt on KS and am loving it. Can Steamforged repeat the trick? Only one way to find out.

The guys seem to have done really great with the dark souls license, I was worried about them getting super held up on approval, and have kept up guildball. This’ll be something to consider for me, especially since they’re working to replicate the originals to start with. Plus they know enough about their license to run their demo scenario based on the demo, that’s a good sign.

So it’s like a Resident Evil dungeon crawler.

Perhaps it is the Greenscreen tablecloths that are so distracting, but I am having difficulty seeing anything in the board title sections. Would much prefer large sections of board,
maybe 300mm or 400mm squares, rather than these small tetris pieces. PVC minis? So,
would that be like the Zombicide minis?

Judging by their recent success you’d be fool not to give this a try

Steamforged are a very cool company. They make cool games, they get cool IP, and their employees have cool tattoos.

Well they got the first bit right and picked the best Resi game in the series 😀

Will check this out when it comes to KS, certainly Dark Souls is a hit. (currently being painted)

Screw bringing it to Ireland – I want them to bring it down to Cornwall! I love how the old ‘area’ layouts translate so easily into dungeon style tiles and the scope of the game – only Resi 2 – makes sense even if the fanboy in my is sad at the limited roster that would be implied, particularly when you consider the variety of player options in Dark Souls. That said, the success of both Guild Ball and Dark Souls leaves me feeling confident that we’re going to get a slick game that I will throw my money at… Read more »

Steamforged has been on fire this year with their games, I’m sure this will be another must have.

Resident Evil 2 seems oddly specific.

Did they say anything about the number of players, and whether it’s cooperative or if there one player is the overlord?
