That's It For Day Two Of The Flames Of War D-Day Boot Camp

It has been a massive day of wargaming friends. We’ve had a wonderful time seeing the boot campers put the finishing touches on their armies and then bring them all to the table in games throughout the day.

The tables really stood out today for the tactical depth and their aesthetic splendour! If you want to take a quick tour through how they came together then check out the video below where Warren and Lloyd take you through the tables.

And be sure to come back tomorrow when we have another day of live blogging, delivering even more Flames of War D-Day boot camp glory! And make sure to comment on the live blogs so you can be in with a chance to win one of three Flames of War bundles!

Flash… Thunder. You guys make the best looking tables. Must be really immersive to play them. The lighting ties it up really nicely. Awesome job!

Nice detail pictures of the tables. You did a wonderful work. How about some electrical tealight with woll to build some flickering flames as another level of detail. You could also put them into the buildings if possible.

Great day of gaming guys. @oriskany organised an epic game of Panzer Leader for@damon and I to play, as none of us were able to get to the boot camp. It was a 9 & 1/2 hour epic. If you are interested go and check out his project blog. To say the first few turns were brutal is an understatement!!

Thanks, @brucelea – indeed, that game was over NINE HOURS LONG, but we recreated, in full scale, the first major wave of the western half of Gold Beach landings (231st Brigade, 50th Northumberland) in moderately precise tactical detail (3000 men or so, represented on a platoon-based level).

The project thread is going and the first two AAR videos are up on YouTube (highlights only, obviously).

Much smaller games from now on, I promise! 😀 😀 😀

A lot of work but well worth it – the tables look amazing. One day you’ll get to re-use some of these bootcamp setups!

Now with all that 15mm normandy you can do crusades in normandy due to time travelling wars. I don’t know, run with it.

The only thing you missed out on are LEDs for lighting effects. Some miniature model train landscapes have this. Miniarturwunderland Hamburg makes use of LEDs and it is simply fabulous. They also have smoke and not only for steam engines, but also for furnaces, burning houses and whatnot.

All that hard work has really paid off. The tables look fantastic to play on and the lighting affects really change the atmosphere and intensity levels. A lot of great ideas throughout the VLOG and i am looking forward to trying out a number of them myself. Having a load of fun watching the live blogs, even if most of the time i am hours behind you as I am working all weekend.
