Wyrd Games Announces A New Edition Of Malifaux
April 15, 2025 by brennon
Wyrd Games has announced that a new edition of their hit game, Malifaux, is coming down the pipeline. A couple of posts have already popped up from the team talking about what they have planned for the new edition of the game.
Malifaux Fourth Edition // Wyrd Games
The core of Malifaux is going to stay the same. The Fate Deck will still be there as the game's core mechanic and you'll be venturing out onto the tabletop to complete your hidden objectives in twisting, strategic games where you're always looking to outplay and bluff your opponent.
However, they are going to be addressing one of the major concerns with Third Edition, and that's the playtime. It wasn't uncommon for a casual game to last four hours or more and so the team are working to get that down to two hours. The pace will get quicker whilst retaining a lot of the tactical depth. As proof of this, a new set of Beta Rules will be available in the coming weeks so you can try out the game and see for yourself.
The story will also be advancing within the world of Malifaux, which means twists and turns in the story, new characters and, of course, plenty of new miniatures.

There are also a few more changes coming and Wyrd has covered those in a new "Nitty Gritty" article where we get a deep dive into some of the tweaks and updates to the story. Crew composition will change, for example, and that also means some miniatures will leave the game and others will get updates. You can see what miniatures will be leaving and getting proxies HERE.
There is also going to be a major story beat playing out in the new edition, where crews will have to choose a side. Dual Keyword miniatures will be moving to just one faction and there's a breakdown on that in the article linked above.
The rules are also going to be available as part of a Core Rules book, which will be a good place for those starting out and a Comprehensive Rules document will be digital only for the most part (and available via print-on-demand). The Core Rules will be available in gaming stores so you can snap it up and get involved.
Lastly, as there's a lot to cover, there will also be a new two-player starter set that will come with fourteen preassembled plastic miniatures, fate decks, tokens, markers and a quick start guide so you can leap in without any hassle. If you'd like to find out more about the new edition, you can check out Wyrd's news HERE.
What do you think about a new edition?

Honestly i had completely forgotten about malifaux, models were superb and the gameplay using a desk of cards was very clever. Might have to dig out the band again.
Dead ringer for my ex wife.
Love the models and the setting. But no one I know has time for a four hour game these days.
Two hours is much more accessible, particularly if it’s well-paced and keeps all players engaged.
Looking forward to more information.
A starter faction box of this game is good value, would love to play it. The attraction of using cards is a lovely idea
Are they going the fix the game’s other glaring problem of stupidly fiddly models? The idea of assembling some of those things always immediately puts me off playing the game more than anything else.
Positive stuff from Wyrd.
I hope that they follow through and achieve their aims.
I for one am looking forward to them.
I have a lot of time for Malifaux but never, it seems, enough to finish a game.
If they can reduce the game to around 2 hours then it’ll be a game rather than an event.
Exciting stuff!
