Blood Red Skies is a miniatures game that uses 1/200th scale planes to fight out dogfights between opposing forces. With around six planes per side and easy to learn rules, games can be played out in around forty-five minutes.

Each of the planes you use in-game, including the Mitsubishi A6-M2 Zeros and Grumman F4F Wildcat within this set, have their own advantages and disadvantages. Additionally, they also make use of the "Advantage" system in Blood Red Skies which lies at the core of your tactical choices.

Pilots are then made all the more unique with specific traits, doctrines and Ace Skills which add named characters into your games. You'll have to work out the best way to master each squadron.

The Starter Set for Battle Of Midway also comes with all of the tokens and such that you'll need to play the game. Everything is included to get you playing the game quickly! To help in that, the US aircraft come in blue-coloured resin whilst the Japanese are in white/cream.

Battle Of Midway Components - Blood Red Skies

I've only played Blood Red Skies a few times but I did enjoy it each time I sat down to play. I like that it skirts the edge of the Historical and throws plenty into the mix that gives it a bit more of a beginner-friendly feel. It seems like a great option for those wanting to dive into playing out World War II dogfights.

Blood Red Skies - US & Japanese Reinforcements

In addition to the new Starter Set, you'll also be able to pick up four reinforcement sets that can be used to bolster your squadron and then provide you with different options when deciding who you want on your wing.

Douglas Dauntless & Devastator Squadron - Blood Red Skies

There are two options for both the US and the Japanese. So, there is plenty for you to get your teeth into when it comes to building up the Allied and Axis forces that fought during the Battle Of Midway and beyond.

Similar to the Starter Set, all of the planes within these packs are made of resin which should hold plenty of detail. You'll want to work on your pin washes if you want to get the most out of these planes but thankfully it's not a hard technique to get down!

Are you tempted to return to or begin a journey in Blood Red Skies?
