I played a lot of COC about ten years ago when it came out and I really enjoyed it. Back then I played a lot of WW2. Hardly any now, and if I do, I play at my friend’s place and he likes FOW exculsively. Some gamers don’t like the random movement, but that is very easily fixed. Just ignore it and set ‘fixed move’ rates. Nonetheless, My friends and I always loved COC deployment stage and dice mechanics (Sharpe’s Practice has something similar), and we use them till this day with our skirmish games. It really shakes thing up.
