1997’s Trinity: Battleground Lives Again From Faceless Publishing
January 19, 2026 by brennon
Does anyone remember Trinity: Battleground? It was a 28mm scale Sci-Fi wargame released back in 1997/1998 by White Wolf Publishing and whilst it basically dropped off the radar since its initial release, Faceless Publishing are bringing it back! It has been given new life by the Wargames Ressurectionist project.
Trinity: Battleground - Rulebook // Faceless Publishing
Brought back after more than a quarter of a century in obscurity, Trinity: Battleground is back in the world thanks to Faceless Publishing and a licence with Onyx Path Publishing. The rules are back in PDF form, featuring all of the original game material and miniatures (more on that soon!). They have tried to recreate the game as it would have been at the time of its original release.
Trinity: Battleground - Miniatures // Faceless Publishing
When you dive into Trinity: Battleground, you take control of either small forces of the Aberrants or the Psions, battling it out during various scenarios on the tabletop. It was also based on the Trinity Roleplaying game, also by White Wolf and now Oynx Path Publishing. This meant that you could dive into character creation and make some fascinating, custom units for loads of gameplay potential on the tabletop.
If you grab the above Rulebook bundle, you'll get the rules, unit sheets for the Aberrants and Psios, printable terrain, templates for adding hills, plus all of the other game components like cards, rules, blast templates and tokens. A great print-and-play set for someone who missed out on this.
Trinity: Battleground Starter Set
If you wanted to go even deeper into Trinity: Battleground, you can take the print-and-play another step forward with a Starter Set that contains all of the above PLUS miniatures.
Trinity: Battleground Starter Set // Faceless Publishing
This set contains 3D scans of the original Trinity: Battleground miniatures, sculpted for the game by the legendary Bob Naismith. You'll get miniatures for...
- Aberrants - Caul Fein, Fhata Khan, Gomorrah, Nazul, Krikquill Support
- Psions - Batya, Cameron, Jameson, Somers, McGowen, Williams, Support Squad Avenger
From there, you'll be able to dive into gameplay that you either remember fondly or is an entirely new experience for you!
"The late 20th century witnessed the terrifying birth of the Aberrants. These mutant humans possessed terrible psionic powers and caused unmatched devastation across the globe before finally being banished to the depths of space. Now, in 2120, they have returned in new and twisted forms to take revenge on Earth and her nascent space colonies. However, humanity is not defenceless! Psions, disciplined and courageous heroes endowed with their own psychic powers, stand as mankind's last line of defence. Choose your side as the monstrous Aberrants or heroic Psions and join the war to determine humanity's future!"
As well as offering up the Rulebook and the Starter Set, Faceless Publishing has also added a bunch of miniatures to their webstore for you to download and print to your heart's content.
Cameron // Trinity: Battleground
Denshea // Trinity: Battleground
Gomorrah // Trinity: Battleground
There are six pages of miniatures for you to choose from, expanding the options for Trinity: Battleground beyond what you got in the starter set. I love that, much like Restoration Games and the likes of Seb Games, we're seeing people taking the time to use new technology to bring back classic miniatures and games that would otherwise fade away into obscurity.
I must admit that I'd never heard of Trinity: Battleground but it's awesome to see that it has returned thanks to Faceless Publishing and the Wargame Resurrectionist program. You can keep up to date with what they are up to over on Facebook as well as their website. For example, the next project for them sees them working alongside Red Shirt Games to bring back the Goth Rats miniatures originally released by DemonBlade Games!

OK, never heard of this one before. And never seen any of those minis before. But it sure screams nostalgia
I loved the game back in the days!!!

Wow. I still have my original copy.
Yeah, getting the STLs for this to finish my collection. Cracking game. Way ahead of the curve at the time. Painted tons of it. Also added some additional stuff for the other factions using Stargrave Minis as they’re really close to White Wolfs OG minis.

We’re gonna see rules design that would shatter weaker minds.
Shame about the minis. Would love to see modern (as in, aware of human proportions) sculpts of the guys on the cover.
Yes, new minis would be good as I think that was part of what held it back.
Absolute retro fun, too bad it’s printed minis. Cartoonish sculpts, very “let’s fight with 40K 2e” vibe back in the day. Everyone tried to beat the 2nd edition. Few did.
Yeah, I do remember it, a lot in fact since I actually have the starter game box sitting on my shelf practically untouched, I got it off a local comicbook shop before it closed back in the 2010s for a steal (also got some WFB Brittion archers same store same clearance sale), and I am pretty sure the franchise stayed on the radar a bit longer than the 1998 since I got download rules for what I think is an RPG (could be the wargame instead) in the same universe off of Onebook shelf in the early 2010’s before I got the game box. so I am not sure how my comicbook shop got a copy.
