Catalyst’s BattleTech Goes Gothic With Upcoming Range
March 31, 2025 by brennon
Now confirmed to not be an April Fool's Day joke, Catalyst Game Labs announced this month that they are working on a new twist to classic BattleTech. As part of the Continuum Series, BattleTech: Gothic introduces an alternative timeline for this Sci-Fi universe, showing where it could have ended up.
BattleTech: Gothic // Catalyst Game Labs
BattleTech: Gothic uses the classic rules of BattleTech but with a few new elements that vibe with the Gothic theme. The new core box for Gothic will come with eight all-new sculpts for classic BattleMechs, including the UrbanMech, Firestarter, Scorpion, Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Marauder and King Crab. There is also a new Atlas that can be fitted wth different heads and back banners to allow you to customise it to fit a particular faction.

There is also a full rulebook that allows you to dive in, plus a Universe Primer (which you can also download HERE). There is also a short story, Reclamation And Rise which introduces you to the narrative of Gothic and also a map so you can find out where you want to place your Gothic battles.
You will also receive new map sheets, Alpha Strike, Battlefield Support and Pilot Cards, plus punch boards of terrain and unit options. It seems like a pretty decent bundle to help you get stuck into a different take on classic BattleTech.
This is the first release in the Continuum Series and you'll see more for Gothic and other universes in the future. Could this perhaps be a different take on BattleTech that draws you into playing with tiny mechs on the battlefield?

Can we start a KS complaints thread immediately instead of 2 years from now?
What KS?
Kickstarter
I now what KS stand for, but there is no kickstarter.
Not yet. That’s what was grantinvanman’s point. We know that CGL will flock the KS up so why not start complaining now instead of waiting for the KS? 😉
I think Cals point is that this is *not* a product being funded via Kickstarter (or any other form of crowdfunding). It’s going straight to retail as the first of a series of one-off releases applying alternative universe settings to Battletech.
@dawfydd WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!? No KS? CGL find spare money in the office couch?
Down the back of the porch maybe? :p
As I said in the forum: ICv2: Tell us what Catalyst has coming up in 2025. Loren Coleman: The big news that came out this week is BattleTech ‑ Gothic. It is an alternate universe BattleTech; there’ll be only a couple of products for that. Mostly, it’s alternate-aesthetic miniatures and a new universe book to describe BattleTech as if it was a more of a Gothic‑flavored universe. It’s the first of our five BattleTech continuum universes. Following that will be a rockets and rayguns 1950s sci‑fi edition. Following that, about a year later, will be the BattleTech anime‑style universe. These… Read more »
Of course I’m open to the possibility I’ve completely misunderstood that but … wow. This seems downright bizarre, like they’re intentionally fragmenting their player base.
No, that is not there intention. It some kinda homage to settings they like for people who are interested to have something new.
Best thing is to listen to there live from Adepticon, they explain it in more detail and answer some questions.

They talk about it from 34:00
but the people interested in playing not-battletech … aren’t playing battletech.
This reads like the kind of thing that fans of battletech would have done ages ago, so I doubt they’re the target audience as well.
Crikey. So they’ve done all theme Monopoly/Zombicide. Not good..
@somegeezer Simpsons Monopoly was cool; you got the two big green tentacled aliens for game pieces, in perfect 1:300 scale!!!
Wow. That’s a really “glass half full” way to see the world 😁
We always need more tentacles 🙂
Tell me you have run out of ideas without telling me you have run out of ideas 🙂
DO NOT support CGL. Go and read the comments on multiple unfulfilled kickstarters they are running right now. Look at the lies they have peddled to backers.
Shame on OTT for not calling out CGL and warning the community. There are so many great hobby companies we can get behind, so no need to give this horrid company any publicity.
do OTT really have to say anything, except point to that one thread ? 😉
It would be interesting to see an interview with CGL …
I’m with ya on Catalyst.
That’s not my experience with them at all. I’ve gone into all three of their battletech KS and received everything I pledged for all three…
I feel strangely disappointed, I don’t really know why? I think I now understand how my parents felt when I told them I didn’t want to be a lawyer!
Ugh. Does *everything* have to be Grimdark Gothic? Let 40k do that, that’s it’s schtick. Battletech needs to be Battletech. Eh, whatever. CONSOOOOOOOM!
I see a lot of people losing their heads over this but really is this all that different than the LAM Urbanmech or their april fools stuff(the timing is rather telling)? Much better than LAM Urbie IMHO-at least these minis seem like they’ll be perfectly usable in ‘normal’ battletech-looking closer I can tell that the Firestarter is a FS9-H and the King Crab looks like it could be a KGC-000. Sure, this AU certainly isn’t going to be for anybody, but the miniatures seem like they’ll be perfectly usable, and if each of these AUs is a one-and-done I just… Read more »
heheh aprils fool 😀
I don’t think it was, no. In either case it’s a wasted effort. They sank time and resources on something that will have little if any appeal whatsoever, trying to get on a bandwagon that has established players and that they don’t do well at all. The appeal of BT is the (more) grounded approach they do to it.
