Deep-Cut & The Army Painter Team Up On Speedpaint Pens?
November 26, 2024 by brennon
The Army Painter and Deep-Cut Studio are collaborating on a brand new project that will be revealed in full over the Black Friday weekend. Want to get a bit more control out of your Speedpaints? Well, how about Speedpaint Markers?
Speedpaint Markers // The Army Painter & Deep-Cut Studio
This is all we've got to go on so far but it looks like a rather nifty product that could take a bit more of the hassle out of the painting process. Paint pens aren't a new concept and they have existed before but using them alongside the Speedpaint range from The Army Painter seems like a grand idea.
Sometimes brush control and dealing with Speedpaint can be an issue, especially for new painters, so having the paint in pen form could end up being a great way to get more control when working on your miniatures, especially over a zenith or "slapchop".
It will be interesting to see how much of the Speedpaint range will be available in marker form. Keep an eye out for the full reveal later this week!

Colouring in miniatures? Sign me up! XD
Holy moly this could be amazing for slow painters like me.
And free-handing graffiti and icons on large flat surfaces
The priming job on that miniature is appalling; it’s so powdery…
I’m intrigued by these, though. I’ve seen some people use similar products from the art world, with very good results.
I have to say it feels a bit gimmicky, but then again I thought contrast/speed paints were gimmicky as well – but people use them to good effect. Off the top of my head, the first use that would come to mind is for tattoos, eyes and maybe gemstones. It depends on how runny they are, I guess. Other than that, I would still go with the brush.
I will eagerly wait for a live review!
Paint pens that are that fine are an intriguing idea as they are so delicate at the tip. Eyes might be easier than doing them with technical pens for manga artists in getting the right angle. This probably has merit for all the broad flat panels minis have as well as a touch up for details.
This isn’t new, but certainly could be useful to some in the hobby. These things come in waves as AK has just released its acrylic pens too. What is baffling is why it needs to be done by Deep-Cut in ‘cooperation’ with Army Painter. Sure I get it AP might not want to invest, cannibalise or add another product to its range so soon – though AK has no problems like that and you can be reasonably sure that Vallejo or Scale 75 will be in on this soon. Deep-Cut using AP paint though just adds a whole other layer… Read more »
This sounds like a brilliant way to paint while on the train to work! :O
