Download Free Hardwar Quickplay Rules + Kickstarter Launch Soon!
June 17, 2025 by brennon
Modiphius has made a Quickplay set of rules free for you to download so you can get stuck into their 6mm Sci-Fi mech wargame, Hardwar, before the Kickstarter launches soon. Grab the rules, get stuck in and start playing to see if the game is for you.
Hardwar Quickplay // Modiphius
The Hardwar Quickplay introduces you to a streamlined and fast-playing introduction to the larger battles you'll be playing. You'll find the rules you need for playing games with your clanking mechs and rumbling tanks as well as a sample mission and more for you to play out on the tabletop.
This means that you can learn the core mechanics across, get used to the unit statistics and play with whatever mechs you have to hand or maybe pick up some of the older Hardwar range once again! The final Corebook will include nine factions, unit design options, solo and cooperative play, campaign rules, terrain rules, skills and flaws for your heroes, flying units and a lot more.
When you dive into your full games, you'll be taking on the role of corporations, paramilitary contractors or perhaps even revolutionary leaders who are fighting for supremacy! Your company of six to ten miniatures will grow and expand as you fight through numerous battles and interconnected scenarios.
Remastered Miniatures
The Kickstarter, which will be launching soon, will come with more than just the new rulebook. You'll also be able to get a series of remastered 6mm miniatures, starting with two factions that could be your jumping-off point.
Syndicate Taskforce // Hardwar
You could go with the sleek and deadly-looking Syndicate Taskforce example. My favourite miniatures from the set are the Boris and the Sapsan Assault flyer. These look very slick and give me vibes of Titanfall.
Perhaps you'd prefer to throw your support behind the Consortium Security Squadron and their equally awesome-looking vehicles. I have plenty of time for the Longinus (Mammoth Tank, anyone?) and the Zeus, which is going to be bombarding the battlefield.
Consortium Security Squadron // Hardwar
Modiphius has also been working on some thematic terrain for you to use in your games of Hardwar. The fighting in this instance has moved to a frontier farm somewhere and your forces are going to be battling over it to secure prime real estate and resources.
New Terrain // Hardwar
I wonder if the farmer had time to get out of Dodge before the firing started? Some really nice terrain and something a bit different from what you might expect. Colourful frontier territory rather than utterly burnt-out city ruins!
More will be coming down the pipeline for Hardwar over the next couple of days and weeks ahead of a full Kickstarter launch soon. Could this be the Sci-Fi 6mm mech wargame for you?

I bought some of the Strato mechs and a butt-load of weapons to magnetize — for my money, I like their designs better than Battletech.
I’m glad Modiphius stepped in and gave this another shot, because it’s a really cool setting. I don’t know how much of the original stuff they’re going to put out, but there were civilian vehicles, labor mechs, and even (if I remember right) news crews that actually factored into the game.
@bennythejew Did they have differrent scales as well? Or am I thinking of something else? Nonetheless, I agree with what you wrote. I prefer these to a lot of Battletech stuff. I will be getting this when it comes to retail.
They did release a few of the mechs in 15mm scale, but I don’t think they had anything else.
They also had the beginnings of a space fleet game called “Stratoyager” (not the *best* name) and a Wipeout-style racing game, but I don’t remember what that one was called.
I really hope they re-release those civvie models and labor mechs, or at least the STLs. I was going to snag them, but then Strato shut down. Fingers crossed!
I might well stat up 30k units and see how it goes.
