Fearsome War Drakes Of Rhûn Stalk Into Middle-earth SBG!
April 29, 2025 by brennon
Games Workshop are treating fans of Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game to even more miniatures as a new preview last week showcased a few choice additions to the Evil side of the War of the Ring. To start, you will be able to get your hands on the War Drakes of Rhûn soon!
War Drake of Rhûn // Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game
Rhûnish Drakes are a rare sight on the battlefield but the Easterlings have goaded them out of the dark corners of the world to fight alongside them. The Dragon Cult has taken a particular interest in these venomous lizards.

The slow-acting venom in their bite strikes at the very core of their foes and it will reduce the Fight Value and Attacks of their targets to just one for the rest of the game! That sounds like it could be particularly dangerous and deadly should it be used on the right character!
The miniatures look really nice and I like the design of them as a whole. I like that they have gone with that slightly more lizard-like appearance to them rather than something traditionally draconic. They have something of the Victorian dinosaur about their design, which feels like it works with the aesthetic of Middle-earth.
Corsairs of Umbar - Fire Ballista!
As well as the War Drakes Of Rhûn for the Easterlings, you can also get your hands on something dangerous for the forces of the Corsairs of Umbar.

This piece of kit would probably find itself mounted on the back of one of their pillaging warships but it can also be taken from the deck and used on the battlefield to harass the soldiers of Gondor. It comes manned by three crew and with a hefty Strength 8, it also has the special rules Direct Shot, Piercing Shot and Bladed Bolts. A good way of pinning the knights of Minas Tirith to the ground or taking down a particularly worrisome Eagle.
A bunch of returning metal miniatures are also making their way back to the webstore, like the Lords of Umbar (Dalamyr, Fleetmaster of Umbar and two Hasharin), the Bo’sun and Captain, and the Crossbowmen. These will sit alongside the Forge World resin miniatures for the sets above, which will be coming down the pipeline.
Rules for the War Drakes will be in the upcoming Armies of Middle-earth supplement and the Corsair Ballista is in The Armies of The Lord of the Rings.
Will you be snapping up these new sets?
