Fantasy Flight Games talked about the new Specialist Sets coming to Star Wars: Legion during Gen Con this year but this is one of the first times we get a proper look inside the boxes at what these new characters can do for your army.

Star Wars Legion Specialists - Fantasy Flight Games

Each of the sets adds some new characters into the mix that won't be leading your force but instead will be lending assistance to the main characters from the Star Wars world. Each set is essentially the same, providing you with an officer, a comms specialist, a medical droid, and an astromech droid but of course, they each have their own flare to them to make them into Rebel and Imperial focused characters.

The Officer within each set is a cheap alternative to fielding someone like Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader as the leader of your force. This opens up more choice when it comes to the kind of units you can bring to the tabletop and whilst their command cards won't be able to do anything overtly special they will keep your soldiers moving and working together as one.

Imperial Specialists - Fantasy Flight Games

The 'Personnel' portion of these characters comes up in the way that they interact with your units. Most of your regular squads on the tabletop will have the ability to take a Personnel Upgrade. If you do this then you'll gain a benefit when they get bolted onto your squad.

The example they use is adding a Comms Technician to your unit, opening up new upgrades and allowing you to issue orders to other squads whilst jamming the orders of others.

I'm sure we'll get more of a look at the upgrade opportunities provided by the Specialists boxes in due course but right now this looks like a great option for someone wanting to make a more general force for Star Wars: Legion.

What do you think?
