Fantasy Flight Games has announced that KeyForge, their unique card game, is taking a hiatus. Both the pandemic and an unfortunate problem with a broken algorithm have forced the game to take a break but it will be returning in the future.

As they mentioned in their announcement for the game, "The “unforeseen complication” that we mentioned above is the fact that the deckbuilding algorithm for KeyForge is broken and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up." That means that they can't make new decks which is pretty rough considering the game is powered by the random builds generated by the code behind the game.

They are going to have to rebuild it from the ground up which seems like a monumental task. They have said that once the game returns, all of your existing decks are still going to be playable (which is nice) but there will also be a brand new set (pictured above) called Winds Of Exchange.

This will act as a new gateway into the universe of KeyForge for two players. Everything is finished for the set it seems but they are holding back to make sure they can power things up proper once the backend has been fixed.

I still regard KeyForge as one of my favourite card games. It's simple to play, has an insanely low buy-in cost and has brought so many more people into the fold when it comes to tabletop gaming. I am eager to see what Fantasy Flight Games do in the future.

Have you still got plenty of KeyForge decks in your collection?
