Wrap Up Your Hamburg City Guard In Perry’s British Uniforms
March 17, 2025 by brennon
Perry Miniatures took part in a big ol' battle at TACTICA this year and for that, they required some new miniatures. So, Perry Miniatures being who they are, they got a whole bunch of new miniatures sculpted up to represent the Hamburg City Guard at Wilhelmsburg who were all done up in British uniforms to keep the cold out.

And so, four new sets of metal miniatures in 28mm came to life to represent the soldiers of this particular conflict. Leading the way, as seems fitting, we have the Peninsular War Infantry Command who are wearing those British greatcoats. They are shown here in their stovepipe shakos and getting ready to lead the rest of your soldiers into the fighting.
Those soldiers are also represented, marching to battle with rifles ready and shouldered. This gives you the core of this army that you'd need for Wilhelmsburg.

Alongside those fellows, you also have the more specific 1813-15 Infantry Command, again in their greatcoats but this time with the Belgic shako instead of the stovepipe. These Perry Miniatures folk know a thing or two about the little details as you might imagine!

There are also your standard soldiers in the form of the 1813-15 Infantry Marching so you can be built up a very specific force for Wilhelmsburg and perhaps a few what if? moments from the period as well. These are all available separately as part of the British section of the Perry Miniatures website which you can find HERE.

If you'd like to know more about the battle that these miniatures were sculpted for, Perry Miniatures shared a bit about it on their Facebook page...
"In 1813 and 1814, the island Wilhelmsburg of the river Elbe, located just south of today's Hamburg city centre, was the scene of fierce battles between the French and Allied armies on several occasions. Where the “Bürgerhaus Wilhelmsburg” stands today and where TACTICA is situated, ran the great military road between Hamburg and Harburg, which in its construction became the forerunner of the Hamburg Elbe Bridges and the “Wilhelmsburg Reichstraße”. The so-called "French period" from 1806 to 1814 shaped Wilhelmsburg and large parts of northern Germany to this day. Although the battles and conflicts of the Napoleonic Wars in northern Germany are only a sideshow of the important events of that time, their history is nevertheless extremely diverse and exciting."
You can see the battle that they played out alongside the likes of Jervis Johnson and Frank Becker. Frank painted up the unit you see below made up of the miniatures above.

Go and check out the Facebook page to see some snaps from the actual game itself and how it all went. It sounds like it went well and made use of the rules, Valour & Fortitude, which came out last year. Some of you might have even got the rules in physical form from your copy of Wargames Illustrated.

Could you be tempted to try and recreate what Perry Miniatures and friends played out here with Wilhelmsburg? It's always neat finding out about odd battles and smaller clashes as opposed to just getting repeats of the big battles.

where’s the Hamburgler?
Robble, robble!
Nice, I’m thinking about a time some loud mouth sons of yank ranted about adding northern neighbours as a new state to the union ‘just a matter of marching’….no not last week, these would suit a 1812 campaign nicely
