Handiwork Launch Trench Crusade Backdrop Books Kickstarter
September 25, 2025 by brennon
Handiwork Games has now launched their Kickstarter in partnership with Fortress Factory Inc. to produce a range of Backdrop Books inspired by the dark world of Trench Crusade. Check out these brilliant pieces of artwork that can elevate your miniature photography!
Trench Crusade Backdrop Books // Handiwork
Handiwork Games already produces a great range of Backdrop Books in both A4 and A3 sizes, which are excellent for miniature enthusiasts seeking to level up their miniature photography. All of us have taken photos of our miniatures on our painting tables and had issues with how they look when they turn out. Miniatures are meant to be on the battlefield and these Backdrop Books are a perfect way of showcasing your figures in the right environment!
There are two Backdrop Books available for you to check out as part of the current Kickstarter campaign.
Visions of War Backdrop Book // Handiwork Games
The first of these is Visions of War, which includes a mix of thirty-two battlefield images. Within either the A4 or A3 book, you'll find images by Mike Franchina (the vision behind Trench Crusade) and also official, approved art by Jon Hodgson and Paul Bourne.
There is also a second book, The Golden Seal.
The Golden Seal Backdrop Book // Handiwork Games
The Golden Seal takes your backdrops to a more esoteric level with thirty-two atmospheric and stylised, thematic images which can be used to frame your Trench Crusade miniatures. Great artwork and symbolism from the deep lore of the game world. Again, this book is available in both A4 and A3 and should be nice for those who want to showcase their miniatures differently.
Each of the books features full colour images and if you're someone who loves measurements...
- A3: 16.54 x 11.69 inches (closest to Ledger size in the US), that's 420 x 297mm
- A4: 11.69 x 8.27 inches (closest to US Letter-sized), which is 297 x 210mm
They come with heavy stock (250gsm) with a silk finish, which balances the depth of colour and fidelity of the printing but with a low amount of reflectiveness, which can obviously be a pain when taking photos. They are also ring-bound with a metal spiral, so you can flip through the book easily and it will stay flat once you've got it sitting ready for photos.
How To Use Backdrop Books // Handiwork Games
As you can see, they are very easy to use once you've put a plinth or some terrain into the mix alongside your figures. If you'd like some more examples of how these Backdrop Books look, check out the example photograph from the campaign...

This campaign will be running for two weeks and the books are produced here in the UK. They are currently about a third of the way through each of the books with loads of the backdrops painted. The books are scheduled to be delivered to backers at the beginning of 2026.
