High Elves Make Their Mark On Warhammer: The Old World Soon
February 12, 2025 by brennon
The High Elf Realms are coming, resplendent in their serried ranks to Warhammer: The Old World very soon. Pre-orders are going to be available for those wanting to play as these warriors, mages, artists and realm builders in Games Workshop's return to rank and flank wargaming.
High Elf Realms // Warhammer: The Old World
First up, we have the High Elf Realms Arcane Journal. You don't need this to run a High Elf army as the first books for Warhammer: The Old World already give you the core of your army-building options. The Arcane Journal introduces new rules, background lore and scenarios for running Armies Of Infamy like the Chracian Warhost or the mighty Sea Guard Garrison. This comes alongside new magical items and profiles for the fearsome Korhil Lionmane and the cunning Ishaya Vess. Chracian Chieftains also join the ranks of their Elven allies defending the home of the Elves from all threats.
If you're going to be playing as the High Elves then you might also want some of the accessories coming your way like the themed dice and the expansive transfer sheet which will stop you having to worry about freehanding those shields!

There is also a set of Reference Cards which will be handy in the heat of battle when you need to check something quickly. Thankfully, The Old World doesn't get as many huge updates as the other mainline Games Workshop games so it might be worth picking those cards up.
High Elves Battalion
If you're starting with the High Elves for the first time then you might want to get yourself the High Elves Battalion which gives you a solid starting point for a gleaming host.

This set comes with enough components to make thirty-two Elven Spearmen and thirty-two Elven Archers alongside the command options for making these into two units of sixteen each. The infantry is then supported by two Tiranoc Chariots that can also be built as Lion Chariots of Chrace (Chrace all the way). A great force that could use just a couple of characters to make it pop.
Returning High Elf Realms Kits
A bevvy of returning kits are going to be coming back to the Warhammer range including the impressive High Elf Lord (or Archmage) on Dragon.
High Elf Lord/Archmage On Dragon // Warhammer: The Old World
This is a classic kit which has echoes of the older metal dragons in its design. It's a hefty miniature that can take the form of a martial lord or a master of the arcane arts in the Archmage. Either way, you're getting a fearsome dragon mount that can burn and tear its way through most of its foes on the tabletop.
Some metal character miniatures are also coming back to help support the High Elf range. We saw these during an early Warhammer Preview but you'll be able to get Korhil Lionmane and the Handmaiden Of The Everqueen. I now won't have to pay stupid eBay prices for my main man Korhil!

Plenty of infantry, cavalry and more will also be coming back to The Old World with the likes of the deadly swordsmen, the Swordmasters Of Hoeth. Deadly protectors that can cleave their way through even the most heavily armoured infantry.

If you want more elite warriors then you could also pick up the White Lions Of Chrace with their deadly axes. Bedecked in their lion cloaks, they are some of the most fearsome warriors in the High Elf army.

Who wouldn't want to get stuck into a bit of a scrap with these fearsome warriors? Once again, I will be freed from the terror of trawling eBay in order to get some of my favourite High Elves.
More is also coming from a cavalry standpoint with the agile and talented Ellyrian Reavers charging forth onto the battlefield. Armed with their spears and bows, they are a versatile unit and it's great to see them back after an age when they were part of the Island Of Blood set.
Ellyrian Reavers // Warhammer: The Old World
This will by no means be all of the plastic, metal and Forge World resin miniatures that are coming back as you'll also be able to get Eagle-Claw Bolt Throwers but also something awesome in the form of the Merwyrm.
Merwyrm // Warhammer: The Old World
This beast has been summoned from the deep to do battle on behalf of the Sea Lord. Drawn from an old Forge World collection that pretty much vanished, it's good to see the Monstrous Arcanum range getting another chance. The Merwyrm is a brilliant monster and could be a fun project for a High Elf fan who already has plenty in their collection but finds themselves missing a centrepiece.
New Forge World Miniatures
As well as the miniatures above, a couple of new Forge World miniatures will also be joining the collection. I won't gild the lily on this one as we've already seen these out in the wild but you'll be able to get the Lord Of Chrace and Ishaya Vess.
Lord Of Chrace // Warhammer: The Old World
Ishaya Vess // Warhammer: The Old World
The Lord Of Chrace comes from the aforementioned harsh lands. They are woodsmen, hunters and fierce fighters who have proved themselves by stalking and killing one of the famous white lions of their homeland. Sea Lord Aislinn has also brought Ishaya Vess to the fore, defending the coast of Ulthuan from all manner of threats from the sea. She will make a fine leader for your Lothern Sea Guard much as the Lord Of Chrace will be for the White Lions.
All of these new releases and more will be coming as part of the pre-orders for the High Elf Realms this weekend!

Not sure about the posing of the Vess mini, I much prefer the aloofness of the artwork.
Agreed. Kinda weird. I think it reminds me of another mini, maybe a Necromunda one – it’s like they took the 3D sculpt doll frame and just “Elfed” it.
Not a cow in sight. The old skool is the best skool.
