King Conan: Legend Of Conan Teased At Cannes
May 17, 2014 by brennon
It's been an interesting prospect, the return of Conan. Arnold Schwarzenegger features however in a new poster that has arrived at the Cannes Film Festival showing off a much older looking Barbarian. King Conan is coming!
It will be interesting to find out how mocked up this is but I reckon we could have quite the adventure movie when this finally hits. The more recent Jason Momoa movie was alright but certainly not deserving of the Conan title so it seems a pretty obvious step to go back to the originals and pick up where they left off.
Are you interested in the return of Arnold as Conan?
Interested is an understatement…
Same for me. I’ve seen the first conan movie over 30 times and I’ve loved it every time. It’s one of those movies I never ever get tired of.
‘Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That’s what’s important! Valor pleases you, Crom… so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!’
Conan the Sexagenarian
(Look the word up – it is not rude!)
Nope. but it still warrents a chuckle lol
A number of Robert E. Howard’s tales were of Conan as an older man, after he became king and the crown began to weigh upon him heavily. The only Conan novel that Howard ever wrote, “The Hour of the Dragon,” was about the betrayal of King Conan and his subsequent battle to gain revenge and retain his throne and kingdom. Not sure if that’s what this movie is based upon, but it would be a great choice. Interestingly, Howard had sold that novel to a British publisher originally, and was eagerly anticipating his first novel’s publication when the publisher folded.… Read more »
Great post, and I agree the tales you mention would make an excellent plot for a new movie.
@meanbone The Hour of the Dragon is one of my favourite Conan stories. Filled with epic battles and mass combat. More of a war story than an adventure story. I think it could be a great story (if handled well) and a perfect role for an ageing Arnold Swarchenegger.
Should be quite good the other Conan films were good.
Why didnt the recent Momoa Conan movie didnt deserve the title Conan? Or is that just an oppinion not shared by all the peeps.
It was a good movie but Shwartzen….schwarte….swcharte….Arnie is Conan to a lot of us especially us older ones. Its the same with Terminator (IMHO). Terminator 4 was ok but it lacked…well the Terminator (not counting CGI cameos).
Dont get me wrong iam from 1983 so i did see the Arnie movies many times. But there are more who can play Conan than just Arnie. Even saw some good tv series that used the Conan books that where nice to watch.
A must see, can’t wait 🙂
Definitely interested in where they take this movie. I wonder who they’ll get to play Zenobia, or whether her character will appear in the movie. From what I’ve read she was the last great love of his life, a liberated slave girl who took “some of the sting” out of old age (also mother of Conan’s son, Conn)?
ive got the complete chronicles of conan sitting on my shelf, and I am quite embarassed to say I have never read it, but this has encouraged me to dig it out and begin. wonder how many looks I will get for bringing a leather bound 1000 page book on the bus
“Conan, what is best in life?”
“To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, to hear lamentations of the women and MORE Conan.”
At least this is an age appropriate role for him. I love me some Arnold and Sly, but getting kinda tire of action movies with late 60’s **skickers taking out scores of 20 year old’s without breaking a sweat. Though the Expendable franchise is kinda cool with it’s unapologetic cheese.
