Received an Ash and Oak Club Starter set for Wolsung from Necron099 as he was anxious to get me playing the game. He is quite familiar with my collection of minis so knew I already had several painted figures that would work well in this gang. All the Beasts of War coverage really had me interested in trying out the system and minis got me excited to paint them.

Downloaded the rules, printed my cards, and started painting minis. Necron099 included Abinav Singh, Orc sniper, with the gift so I would have plenty of fire power.

Here is the back of the box showing which figures I'd be starting with. Abinov Singh came separately in a blister pack. Here is the back of the box showing which figures I'd be starting with. Abinov Singh came separately in a blister pack.

I decided early on that I would just try and match the minis on the box or in the rule book. This served two purposes; first it made it easy to connect the mini to the card/stats and, second, it eliminated the pitfall of indecision.  It didn’t hurt that the art direction is excellent and the minis full of character.

Starting with the servants/henchmen because someone has to get everything set up and make sure the perimeter is clear.  I love the ogre in a suit. The golf club is just a bonus.  The butlers were next though the one with an umbrella was delayed by a need to replace the shaft on his umbrella with brass rod.  Finally, Singh brings up the rear, his keen eye wary.

Then it was onto the heroes, Sir Lance Oakroot and Sir Zachary Fiercebatten.  As with the others I’ve shown so far, I mounted both of the miniatures on Secret Weapon bases.  They are among my favorite and paint up nicely.  I also use a lot of MicroArts and Scibor as well so those will probably show up on this blog too.

Those were a lot of fun to paint and will look good together on the field.  I already have a maid by Reaper and a couple heroines from Hasslefree and Bombshell that will fit this club perfectly.  Of course I am now hooked and have picked up some more Ash and Oak members as well as a steam powered automobile so can see this game keeping me busy for some time.

Now its time for a nice Now its time for a nice "cup of the brown stuff".
