Really interesting project. I was just thinking, if you are intending to 3D print this, why not use a different locking system? It’s a shame to disrupt the tile design by using the existing jig saw style connections.
Great idea its certainly an option. I have started a new job and moved so can only work on this a little at the moment but I could essentially use various methods using this system. For the project I wanted to copy the design rather than recreate a more suitable way of attaching pieces depending on material.
I thought that may be your intention.
I see you have moved to Zbrush for this part of the project. I started using Zbrush about 18 months ago but haven’t really done any hard edged stuff with it. Is there a reason you started in Substance Designer rather than Zmodeller? I’m not familiar with Substance Designer so just interested to know it’s applications.
I first wanted to use designer really just to try it for fun on this project you could easily do with any modeling software. Substance is great for doing tiling materials which I am exporting the height map for use in Zbrush. The benefit of this is you could create variations of the panels very quickly once set up. This was the solution for the board. Like I say the next step would be to add the pipes round the edge I would normally do this in Modo or Maya for procision as my scale is set up,maybe I will… Read more »
Zmodeller does have a decent set of pre made industrial insert brushes ?(Although I’m guessing other software would have similar features.)
I’ve not worked in Zbrush for a few months but I’ve got a project starting at work next wk so I will be refreshing myself.
I also backed the SparkMaker 2 KS so will have my own (all be it tiny), SLA printer by the new year. That’s a big incentive to get back to it!
Nice it would be great to have your own machine to test Ideas 🙂 I send my final designs to shapeways to get a high detail print..
