For the underpainting see the previous post.

The reds were done with layers of Crimson Ink (Daler Rowney FW inks) then the deepest shadows were redone by panel lining with a homemade Paynes Grey wash.

The same was done with the greens using Black Green Ink (Vallejo Game ink)

Anything Leather was done with Sepia Ink (Vallejo Game Ink) followed by Army Painter Strong tone.

The book pages were the colour of the underpainting with Pale Sand (Vallejo Model Color) highlights.  The centre got some Strong Tone to darken it and the writing was Sepia ink almost stippled on in layers.

The Hair was Ivory (Vallejo Model Color) highlights followed by futher highlights of White and a glaze of Ivory.

The skin got a coat of Black Green ink followed by Cam. Black Brown (Vallejo Model Air).  This was then highlighted with lighter mixes of the Cam. Black Brown and Tan Earth (Vallejo Model Air). The skin was then glazed with Mahogany Brown (Vallejo Model Color).

My first attempt at gems involved watching Vince Venturella’s Hobby Cheating 78 How to Paint Gems (Which is below).  The staff gem at at distance looks ok.  Close up it looks like a smiling face.  The paints I used were:  Hull Red (Vallejo Model Color), Pure Red (Army Painter),  Ice Yellow (Vallejo Model Color) to highlight and Periscopes (Vallejo Panzer Series) to mix with Hull red for shading.

Everything was varnished before the metallics, then:

  • Base coat black followed by Gunmetal Grey (Vallejo Model Color) mixed with a touch of Panzer Dark Grey (Vallejo Model Air)
  • Bright Bronze (Vallejo Game Color) mixed with a touch of Red Leather (Vallejo Model Color) on anything bronze.

  • Black Wash on any metal with recesses
  • Highlight of Silver (Vallejo Game Color) mixed with a touch of White on the steel/silver and mixed with Bright Bronze for the bronze highlights

Not to be viewed by Sokar4.  Below is my first Elf list for Vanguard.  I’m using the Master Hunter as my Prince and a Drakon Handler as my Citizen Levy.  Also I’m swapping out the spell Mind Storm for Enchant Weapons.
