Taking a break from AoS....to play some AoS:Champions :)
Picked up the Order and Death campaigns decks, and then hit up Geek Retreat, our local gaming cafe to play a few rounds over some hot drinks. We needed that after getting soaked going to three different gaming locations in town to pick up both the decks we wanted!
Well, ok maybe buy some more stuff...
Ok, I haven’t painted the endless spells yet, but, I loved this model from the moment I saw it. That love only increased when I read the rules, and the fluff stating the coffin can be of a dead but regenerating vampire. I do love vampires.
Nighthaunt Accessories
What do you do once you get your Soul Wars Nighthaunts all painted? Why go and buy more Nighthaunt stuff of course!
Picked up…
The new endless spells aligned to the Nighthaunt faction.
The Nighthaunt Battletome
The Nighthaunt warscroll cards
The awesome, awesome, Nighthaunt themed dice
Knight of Shrouds
The general of the force! The Knight of Shrouds did not quite turn out as well as some of the other heroes. Could do with more tidying and probably some other work. Still good enough to play a few games.
Also the last model for my Nighthaunt part of the Soul Wars box set. Though you might be able to see, I’ve been to GW today and picked up some more stuff! More on that tomorrow with any luck…
Lord Executioner
Another model painted ready for tabletop playing. Very pleased with how this model turned out.
Spirit Torment Done!
Ready for tabletop at least, though some basing work still to be done as with the rest of the army.
Alternate Dreadwarden
Can be your alternate Dreadwarden, lead a separate group of Chainrasps, or sit-in as a regular Chainrasp, depending on need. Apologies for the particularly bad photo on this occasion.
Nighthaunt WIP
A little bit of WIP on remaining Nighthaunt models.
More Stormcast!
@ajhawes continues to work through her Stormcast.
Grimghast Reapers Done!
Grimghast finished! Time to get the guts up to actually work on the characters.
Dreadwarden and sword-wielding Chainrasps
So I split off the batch of sword-wielding Chainrasps, since I’ve been doing all the swords in the same bronze/verdigris style. Same for the leader of the unit, the Dreadwarden and his candelabra topped staff. Also, the one mace armed Chainrasp, that I managed to somehow miss from the earlier batch. The only one missing from this unit now is the alternate Dreadwarden, presumably, so you can run it as two 10 model units rather than a single 20 model unit. It will get done before I’m finished though!
WIP on the Grim Ghasts
Batch painting again, probably more or less the same scheme as the rest of my Night haunts, just a few tweaks for the differences on these.
Hobby Night Live Post Two!
Another amazing stream, so much fun and fascinating conversation. The painting competition was awesome, and hearing the thoughts of the judges as well as seeing the fabulous miniatures was fascinating. I do think it’s a shame we didn’t see more hobby, as I think one of the best things about HNL is the feeling of hanging out with everyone in the community and at BoW HQ, as everyone shares their projects. So I think it was difficult to find enough air-time, even in such a long stream, to cover both areas. Still, I am sure we will get another HNL before too long, and we can all share some more hobby.
I am always impressed with how fast people can get stuff down over an evening. @ajhawes and I were not quite so fast. Much as I feel like I am progressing through the Nighthaunts quickly overall, tonight I managed to just do the basic stages of a batch paint on the remaining Chainrasps and their Dreadwarden leader.
Hobby Night Live Post One !
Getting going with HNL on!
First batch of Chain Rasps complete
First batch (and the largest) of Chain Rasps done. Still, need final basing and probably some minor error correct. I will be moving on now though to the Dread Wardens and the smaller batch of sword-wielding Chain Rasps.
Guardian of Souls
Here is the Guardian of Souls for the Nighthaunts. Wanted to try out the nihilakh oxide technical paint to give a verdigris effect on the Guardians bronze/copper lantern and sword.
Wasn’t too sure about fiery jaw/chin piece in the official paint scheme, so went for a more bloody look.
Whilst the Nighthaunt overall in the Soul Wars boxset managed to stay together nicely even with tiny contact points, I did manage to break this guys sword arm, so it looks little incorrect here.
Chain Rasps
So onwards with the massive unit of Chain Rasps. One model to test out a scheme…
I will need to do a pass over all of these for proper basing and some tidying. First though getting the whole scheme down with some batch painting on the other rasps.
Finished unit of Glaive Wraiths!
Well, it was late last night, we had lost the daylight, but I finished my first unit, the Glaive Wraiths.
I will try and do some better pictures with a proper setup once we are through these.
Today we need to go and pick-up some more paints @ajhawes has realised she needs and then we’ll be back at it!
Louis's Saurus Warrior
@thewaugh showing off his trick of using a small amount of weak super-glue and a tongue depressor for his airbrush a model-on-a-stick method.
One of my Glaive Wraiths
Time to try out the blue ghost technical paint and figure out a colour scheme. I wanted blue-tinged rather than green for my ghost effect. I found the technical paint is a little tricky to use for a good effect on larger smoother surfaces. So I ended up re-working the effect on this one to be a blue-blend of layered paints before going to the technical on the white ends.
