About the Project

A quick brake from my Sylvaneth Force to work on my Shadespire Stuff and give you guys a quick tutorial how I did my rust effect. It is quick, it is dirty and I like it. Did I say "quick"? I like this word "quick"... First I did the Sepulchral Guard, now I´m working on Ironjawz Boyz, next I think I´ll go for Khorne Bloodbound perhaps.

Final Step with a Wash (Tutorial Part 4)

Enough with Le Sponge, now we soak da Boyz with the old trusty Army Painter Strong Tone. Get them all muddy and dirty, I use a lot of wash for this step. Now give them time to dry.

After that, this could be finished.

This is a quick and easy way to do rust. This works for Orruks, Undead but also with Modern or SciFi terrain.

Next we do the same thing as we did in Part 2, use Le Sponge but now with a darker colour. If you have a Mahogany colour, use it. If not, mix some dark brown with a little red, this should work also.

Go over the orange parts but let them shine through, this should look allready like rust.

Starting to rust (Tutorial Part 2)

After the priming we need to tool up a bid, using “Le Sponge”

Le Sponge is just an ordinary household sponge or the stuff that you´ll find in your blisters. Tear it down to a small handy size to get into the model with ease.

Then we use a orange block colour, I use P3 Khador Red Highlight, but any orange colour will do. Get Le Sponge into the colour, dapple some of the excess of and start stippling all the metal parts of your mini, work it in from the edges of the metal parts.

This is the rusty base, quick and easy.

Preparing da Boyz (Tutorial Part 1)

For a good rust effect we need something to rust. Ironskull´s Boyz have a lot of armor, and armor can rust.

In the first step I primed da Boyz black and did a zenithal highlight with a light silver metallic (Army Painter Matt Black and Army Painter Plate Mail Metal). I used rattlecans for this, so no Airbrush needed.

After the priming I blocked out the Skin with a dark green colour. First step done for the essential part.

First time Shadespire with the Sepulchral Guard

The Sepulchral Guard was my first Shadespire team. I bought them because I loved the miniatures and painted them because it was fun. Now I play the game and it is somewhat addicting.

In the picture you can see a nice gritty rust effect, with the Ironskull Boys I will show you how I archived this effect in a few simple steps.
