About the Project

This will be a documented journey through my underhive journey. Mainly painting related, I hope to put up some images of my past history (which was in an old forum post) and current progress us any views or tips I find as I go along.

First test miniature
First test miniature

This is the final shot of my first test miniature.  The aim was for a more Polynesian feel – darker skin and tattoos.  The tattoo is there but too busy for this scale so I am going to simplify it more – looking a block colour instead of more lines.

Batch painting underway!

I really don’t like batch painting but the trousers are all done, mostly, the black is done (except for more rusting of the armour) The metallic areas are done bar yet more rust.  The flesh is where its at right now.  I got a little bored batch painting this so I decided to try and finish one. 🙂

I have discovered laying down the paint fairly crudely and then using army painter washes of various shades helps bring the highlights all together and its fairly easy to batch paint as I only need a base and a couple of highlight colours, the rest is from a wash so easy to replicate multiple times.

Halfway There

Right, not had too much time but I did finish 3 so that makes 4 complete.  Halfway there!  Still looking at how to do the tattoos and make them stand out but for the minute I’m almost done – I need a new photo as I did put a little more contrast on the base and finish the leather straps, but I’m getting there slowly.  Only time and games will tell if a 7 man starting lineup is going to work 🙂

Got some more time in.  2 more done, 2 to go.  This champion is my favorite so far, I’ve finally started to get happy with the skin tones and he is much more like it! ? The blends are better and he doesn’t look as harsh (it’s subtle but I can see it in real life) Got almost all the bases finished by working in some scale 75 fantasy & games paint – the higher saturation is helping me push the contrast and so I got some orange, red and browns in there to try and contrast with the rest of the miniature.  Also the necromunda hazard stripes making their way in! ?

I have taken some pictures of the Rusty Metal process so when I boot up the laptop I might try a little tutorial. Enjoy all!

It took far longer than I wanted, several illnesses and a new approach but the gang is finally done.  If you haven’t already then try reading glasses! I don’t need glasses and I’ve tried magnifiers but I couldn’t get on with them.  Thans to Luke’s affordable paint service video on YouTube for finally getting me to try it(£2 later) .  It just made the face and details that much easier to manage plus no depth perception issues.  I just got to remember I’m wearing them so when I get up I don’t make myself ill! ?

This has helped spur me on to finish.  Not an ideal photo and i may get individual ones done as it’s easier to see them, but we are now done on the Goliaths.  Now who’s going to be next? Van Saar or Delaque?

Escher to the rescue!

A friend is struggling to find a rythym with his Escher gang so has asked me if I can rescue them.  Wasn’t planning Escher as the next part of this but let’s go.  The above is the starting point. I laid down some base colours and a light coat of my base flesh mix Kthis was a little of the purple base for my pink, a little of a flesh to e but a majority of my warm grey vallejo (love this stuff for flesh).  Although it’s not going to be perfect it certainly going to be tabletop ready.

Now was just to finish off one so that I had a baseline.  Went with the leader who had to have pink hair (only stipulation ?) layered up quickly, took me a couple of hours on about 3 sit downs to finish – I’m getting quicker! Do t have the arms yet but minor issues 🙂
