About the Project

Ok well just because I am doing a terrain piece kinda and there is a challenge on I thought I would stretch the definition of the end is nigh to its limits...and I mean limits. My terrain piece is the base to fit my 28mm 25pounder Howitzer on for my Bolt Action Army... So how does it fit well in the Second Battle of El Alamein the British launched the largest Creeping Barrage since the end of WW1 and being caught in that would have been like being at the end of the world.. totally apocalyptic..so there we are the link... lol

Next up was to mix up some fine basing sand some pva glue and some sand brown paint and randomly splodge it on to the base. When this is dried I then dry brushed the entire thing with Iraqi Sand. Then I coated the entire thing in Army Painter Satin Varnish followed by Anti shine and that's the base finished.Next up was to mix up some fine basing sand some pva glue and some sand brown paint and randomly splodge it on to the base. This is a sand bag defence that slips in front of the gun. Step one I used the piece cut out from the main base. Step two I then glued a stack of Sandbags from Pegasus Hobbies Military Museum Collection to the base. Step 3 I used Vallejo Earth texture to build up around the sand bags. Stage 4 I glued on Army Painter black battle ground grit onto the base. Stage 6 I sprayed everything with army Painter Skeleton Bone Primer. Stage 7 I washed on some army Painter strong tone over the sand bags. This is a sand bag defence that slips in front of the gun. Step one I used the piece cut out from the main base. Overall I am quite pleased with how this came together. The idea was to have a terrain piece to place my gun and crew together, but be able to remove them and play with them separately from the tereait if required.

This was very much a project thrown together from just a thought.

What I could have done better!

Did everything work, mostly, but I think I went off on a tangent with the bases of the gun crew and they don’t quite match up but it’s close enough.

I very much threw this together, so it could have been a bit better in the execution.

What I could do to change it

Basically two things

1.  add a bit of grass to the base

2. Create blanks for the base so when the models are destroyed or move they are replaced by a blank space not a hole.
