So I thought since brown on brown doesn't show too well on camera I would throw up a couple of pictures to show were I'm at with this.

so as I was leaving Hope Castle in Castleblayney I noticed this on a wall and decided to take a picture, when I got home it was a few days before I remembered to look him up, during that time I was already thinking about painting a gun team up for Dicky Boyd and Pete Barfield’s Remembering the Armistice group but that changed once I had read up on Thomas.

Thomas wasn’t a big man, before the war he’d been a jockey, so after being wounded and returning to the lines he managed to take out a machine gun emplacement and capture several German prisoners.

after ordering some of Aly Morrison and Dave Andrews’ Great War Miniatures I cut a block of foam roughly to shape and laid out some pieces to get a feel for the piece. trying to capture the look of the newspaper illustration, I had a couple of different heights but wasn’t a fan of the wall flat on to the action so it was angled and the base reshaped.

a small amount of shading and a sepia wash to give the feel of what I want prior to the Armistice Day deadline. But I will be going back to do a more detailed monochrome paint job on the figures later when time permits.
