About the Project

This was my project during the 2019 #40kHobbyWeekend. Initially the project was supposed to be a combination of me and my friends' hobby projects over the weekend, unfortunately my friends were sick and could come over. I then at least tried to finish the project over the weekend, but that failed too because of health reasons. So I have now rebranded the project and it will just take as long as it's going to take me to paint it. With this model I am pushing my own painting skills somewhat and am trying to show off every step I take in getting the model painted.

This weekend I will be working on the Adepta Sororitas Sister Superior Amalia Novena.

My start.

I have the model build in sub assemblies and got those all primed in Vallejo Surface Primer Black (74.602).

My start.

I put the model together, no glue, and applied a zenith coat with Vallejo Model Air White (71.001). The model stays together really well like this without any additional glue or blutack.

I started with a basecoat of Vallejo Game Color Tinny Tin (72.060) over the armour.

I applied a heavy drybrush of Vallejo Model Color Bronze (70.998) over the armour.

I added a coat of Vallejo Metal Color Burnt Iron (77.721) over the metal bits of the bolter, some top bits of the armour and on the little panel on the power pack.

Progress Update #1

I got a drybrush of Vallejo Model Air Steel (71.065) over the metal bits of the bolter and a coat of Vallejo Model Air Steel (71.065) on the piping on the armour.

I got 2 coats of Vallejo Game Color Cadnium Skin (72.099) on her face.

I put 3 coats of Vallejo Model Color Carmine Red (70.908) over the casing of the bolter and over the skulls, while only 2 coats were necessary for the wax of the purity seals and the candles.

I got the gold detailing painted using Vallejo Game Color Polished Gold (72.055).

Update #2

I got some shading over the face using a 50/50 mix of Citadel Shade Reikland Fleshshade (99189953027) & Vallejo Glaze Medium (70.596).

Update #2

I painted the grips of the bolter and the main body of the frag grenades with Vallejo Panzer Aces Dark Rubber (70.306).

Update #2

I painted the paper bits of the purity seals with Vallejo Model Color Beige (70.917) and then I painted the beads with Vallejo Model Color Medium Blue (70.963).

I started with a little bit of the gold detailing I forgot the yesterday.

Update #3

For the cloth I decided to use some highlights, which I rarely ever do because I don’t like look of it. I don’t think they came out too bad. But I started with a base of Vallejo Model Color Royal Purple (70.810) and gradually blended it with Vallejo Model Air White Grey (71.119) on my palette. I added a drop of Vallejo Retarder Medium (70.597) to slow the drying of the paint and then apart from the first base coat I applied coats of shading from dark to light using a fairly wet brush so that there is some more water in it as well to help blend the paint in.

I painted the pins and metal bits of the frag grenades with Vallejo Model Air Steel (71.065).

Update #3

I painted some of the unarmoured bits of the suit with Vallejo Panzer Aces Dark Rubber (70.306).

Update #3

I got a basecoat on the base using a mix between Vallejo Model Color Sand Yellow (70.916) & Vallejo Model Air White Grey (71.119) at a ratio of approximately 75/25. This desaturates the colour a bit.

I painted all parts of her belt with Vallejo Panzer Aces Leather Belt (70.312).

Update #4

A coat of Vallejo Model Color Red Leather (70.818) over the pouches.

Update #4

And then a touch of Vallejo Model Color Cavalry Brown (70.982) over the cylindrical pouch thing.

Update #4

I got all the Fleur-de-lis on the model painted with Vallejo Model Color Ivory (70.918).

Update #4

I put a quick drybrush over all the pouches with Vallejo Model Color Yellow Ochre (70.913).

I applied a drybrush of Vallejo Model Color Pale Sand (70.837) over the base. In hindsight I should have done this before I painted the candle stands, but a coat of Vallejo Game Color Tinny Tin (72.060) over the areas I touched with my drybrush fixed that.

Update #5

A coat of Vallejo Game Color Sepia Shade (73.200) over the belt and pouches to finish those off.

Update #5

All the Fleur-de-lis on the base are done with Vallejo Model Color Ivory (70.918).

Update #5

I coated the skull on the base with Vallejo Model Color Old Gold (70.878).

Update #5

I got the rest of the stone detail on the base painted with a 75/25 mix of Vallejo Model Color Carmine Red (70.908) & Vallejo Model Color Pale Sand (70.837).

Because of the pre-shading I did I thought let’s use it. So I applied a 50/50 mix of Vallejo Game Color Black (72.051) & Vallejo Glaze Medium (70.596) to the hair to get a nice shade over the hair. I also painted the eyeballs using Vallejo Model Color Ivory (70.918).

Update #6 Getting a Head With It

With the same Vallejo Game Color Black (72.051) & Vallejo Glaze Medium (70.596) mix as before I went in the recesses of the eyes to give her some eyeliner.

Update #6 Getting a Head With It

I mixed some Vallejo Game Color Scarlett Blood (72.106) with some Vallejo Glaze Medium (70.596), again about a 50/50 mix, for the lipstick.

Update #6 Getting a Head With It

I applied a little Citadel Shade Reikland Fleshshade (99189953027) in the scar.

Update #6 Getting a Head With It

And to finish off her face I added a little trim of Vallejo Model Color Pink (70.958) to her hair.

Update #6 Getting a Head With It

Finishing it up.

Sorry about not going into details of the last steps of how I painted the miniature. I got tired of looking at it unfinished and it takes a lot of effort to write down every step I take in getting it done. So I finished her.

Finishing it up.
