About the Project
Starting early on the Defiance front, waiting and hoping for the Kickstarter completion. This will log everything along with wildfire which I got for the sole reason to get a head start on Defiance. Everything will be backwards compatible with infinity but I am hoping to document everything from painting to playing and then expanding it with some home brew goodness.

Wave One Finishing line
So I was on a roll, A race to the finish. Nox done in a single day what could stop me now. I only had one model left and I thought I could get it done in a day.
So I was wrong I done the base in a day as it had a model on it. Then I added green tones as the tag on the base crap though it is was stealing the show.
before I even got to that point I also spent about 6 hours prepping this model on and off. Removing bad mould lines from a PVC model is not fun I even had to remove the bendy blade and convert the model to look like it was before I started or how it should have been… I also decided to magnetise this base which involved sculpting which if anyone knows me I love… Add another couple of hours. I have not made the Infinity base for it yet but it’s on a list now.
I also dislike the sculpt, pose, theme and material though I do like the artwork. Funny that there doesn’t seem to be a studio paint job of this. I think it’s because they couldn’t find someone stupid enough to take on the job as it would probably ruin them if anyone found out they painted it.
Enough Megalodron bashing. I did enjoy parts of this. I think one side of the model looks good. Overall not 100% happy with this but I had to call it a day as it was pissing me off.
One last bash.. Why is this the centrepiece of the Defiance box? If this wasn’t the case I probably wouldn’t have even painted it. but it is so I did
So I am calling it half way done. Enough to play through the initial campaign and then some. It wasn’t horrible. I do love some of the models a lot which is why I backed it.
There is some cost or time saving measures you can see Corvus Belli made. No more PVC models for me. If Infinity is Porn then PVC models gives me a floppy. I would actually prefer Siocast, possibly that’s their plan, the same as GW did with failcast, show people the cheap option then it’s £25 for a character model right up the back door. I hope not.
The whole set is quality and it’s great box Porn as well.
Now to get some games in to inspire me to continue and possibly move across to another project for a little while.
More to come in a little while.
The Mountain of Nox
There is a reason I love infinity. Every model is a character, every model unique… wait a second. Duplicates!!! I already have Nox Models I don’t think I loved painted them before. Sadly I think out of all my models my Nox have the most likes or love hearts or wherever of any of my models. This pisses me off even though I don’t care about that crap.
I know this is only 6 models but I would say I would have rather have painted 20 ultra marines. I cant believe I left them to the end.
Now they were done you would think I would be happy. All of the first wave apart from the scenery pack done. Sadly not there was a Fate worse than Nox awaiting me.
More to come
The Hill before the Mountain
This is where I lost the plot a little. I had prepared a painting lesson for some friends and painted example models for it but this was procrastination for what was to come but did end up as a welcome break.
It all started with some Seed Soldiers. I like the look and feel for these and they were the most interesting of things to come.
I half painted these (base coated) and then they sat for weeks. I did however pick them back up as I ran out of pots to mount new models so they had to get done.
I left the worst to last here at least these models were slightly interesting. I like the facemask things and the pipe hair. Silver linings and all. But I was close to the final push I just needed to try and keep up the quality which was starting to waiver.
More to Come very shortly
Did I just give up?
So it’s been some time since I updated this. I went ahead and took a break from posting and social media in general. I didn’t stop painting though and have finished a lot of stuff, some of which is Defiance.
Quick updates from me.
- CB Siocast is not horrible but it’s not as good as metal. Yet to paint on it though. and at this rate may not get there lol
- PVC is horrible to work with (though in fairness there are 10000’s of types of PVC and I have not tried them all).
- I still have too many models and now the 2nd wave is here I have a crazy amount of defiance still to paint.
- I now have a massive combined army force mostly painted, don’t even like them and have yet to play them.
I had a plan it was to paint all the dull stuff so I could get a nice reward at the end of painting the characters…
Yeah right dessert first.
I was pleased with Speculo Killer 2 most of all but all of these models had a little joy in them. they are not all just red and black and in hindsight I should have spaced these out to prevent burn out on what’s to come. I never learn and never follow my plan. Getting anything painted is better than nothing though.
I even like the larger folds enabling me to put down a better transition and blend it seemed less forced.
More to come very shortly.
Edit forgot to add the Caliban, who were too close to Nox to be that fun 😀
Some models
I had wrote something here cant remember as the project system just timed out again. Not writing it again.
Have some pictures
55 hamsters were killed in bringing you this update.
More Hamster murder to come.
Face Masks
Managed to get some stuff done last week. Never as much as I planned or wanted but work happened. Still putting off painting duplicates and batch painting but the time has to come.
Was still quite fun. though I do have to say that Combined are perhaps the dullest of the infinity models to paint if doing studio type schemes.
So a bit of progress. I think that’s me just over half way. not including alternate poses. Talking of alternate poses after buying the launch set for Operation Crimson Stone I now have 3 Jazz and 3 Caidin.. You can only play one in the game… Just as well people borrow my models from time to time or some may never even see a game.
More to come working on Seed Soldiers just now.
Jayth completed.
These look like the bigger brother to the Taigha. I remember how much I disliked high contrast edge highlighting. It looks good when done but controlling the thickness of the paint is difficult. I used white ink with a touch of blue then just white from the top. I also then went in after everything was done with glazes of pink and blue to book contrast again without shading or highlighting the armour to much.
This was small batch painting but it was still more fun than before. Going to be doing a single model next though. trying to avoid putting it down and not picking it up again. Starting to fell the pressure of my pile of shame to get caught up again. It’s about to get worse with Crimson Stone and the rest of defiance due to show up. I also have More Malifaux to paint but that will be my gift to myself after I finish Defiance base.
Again pleased. It’s quite nice filling up the collectors foam but still not even half way done. A couple of Singles then I think the Nox will be next. Then I will be on my way to the (a) finish line.
More to come.
Attack of the clones (by far the best star wars movie ever)
So I am feeling better and trying to enjoy what metal I have left. So what did I decide to do? Paint duplicated model of course. This is my only complaint about defiance. In saying that I am glad it’s metal and they were actually fun to paint despite being duplicates and me batch painting which I hate.
I done my usual but as I was batch painting and wanted minimal effort I did use Oil washes on infinity models for I think the first time (for me). I normally don’t think washes fit well for infinity. This was just a blue and red oil paint mixed and diluted into a wash consistency with white spirit and applied all over after the airbrush stage but before the detail stage. I into a nice purple and washed and removed to give a good tone to the grey. I also used deck tan for the grey flesh as I felt white looked very stark. I done a later wash after I blocked out the black armour and claws with just black more localised but again removed. I also went in with pink to do some glazes at the end.
Pretty much trying to do this quickly but not so much they would look out of place against my other models. The pictures of these don’t look right I tried to correct them but it was verging on photoshopping the models so I left them as is with only correcting the exposure which was slightly off. The colours are right but the contrast and whites are lighter in real life. But enough of my 1st world problems here’s the models.
Another 6 models done! Quite happy with the progress that’s a big chunk done. I cant say I am looking forward to the Nox so may skip them next. The good news is they are mostly black. I think next will the the Jayth.
I forgot to mention the magnets are in the bases for these ready for my yet designed solution for the colour banding that isn’t pressing plastic tabs on the bottom perhaps chipping or wearing the paint on the base.
If you made it this far you will be please do know that I only believe there is 3 star wars movies and a lot of mistakes.
More to come.
