Painting An Oathmark Elf Army

Sooo…I knew that I said that I’d be able to take more pictures of the Elves I’ve been working on. But, I got carried away and just finished this Officer who is going to be leading my Elf Warriors into battle.

I really enjoyed painting this particular model from the plastic kit and it reminded me of working on classic Warhammer models from back in the day. The bases for these models are much bigger than I previously thought (think an Orc from Warhammer Fantasy).

It means my characters are based on smaller bases but it should be fine as they will simply blend in with the rest once they’ve been ranked up.

I am looking forward to painting the rest of the plastic box now too and will be diving into that over the next few days.

Who would have thought that I’d be having so much fun painting Elves?!

I have been painting up more miniatures from the Oathmark range and took last night to finish up the Elf King, another of the metal miniatures from North Star.

Again I went with the gold/bronze armour as an alternative to make the characters stand out and the bright blue was fun to work with. I think I got the skin looking a bit better on the King too.

I’m never too happy taking pictures of my miniatures this close up as I think they look derpy but I think it works nicely all the same. Darker colours certainly help hide some of your mistakes!

Once again he comes with a nice flowery base showing off a wonderful battlefield meadow.

So, that’s the King finished off and now it is time to delve in and play around with the models from the plastic kit.

I’ll do more progress images of them I promise, exploring the build and then the painting.

So, I spent a bit of time on a day off and over lunch today working on the last bit of painting and basing for the Champion & Mage. Here they are with their bases finished!

As I mentioned in the previous post, I am really enjoying working on the bright blue/darker blue for these Elves and doing a paint scheme that wouldn’t look out of place on an Oldhammer tabletop.

I am going to finish off the Elf King miniature hopefully soon and I’ll end up diving into the plastic set soon too.

So, the first thing that I had to get into was choosing a new colour scheme. I was tempted to go with red or green but I then thought I’d go bright and blue! Here is the scheme on one of the Musicians/Champions from the North Star range.

This shows off the model at that final stage before I worked on the basing. I think it worked out rather well and I like the mash-up of the bright blue against the darker blue followed by the bronze chainmail.

I think that I am going to be working with a normal style of chainmail for the regular infantry but otherwise the bronze/gold should work to make the characters stand out.

The skin was a little bit of a quirky thing for me here. I picked up a Cadian Skintone pot and it was a little bit dark so I had to lighten it up. Still, I think it came out ok!
