About the Project
So with the new edition of Frostgrave round the corner I thought it was about time to get myself a new warband. Plus me and the kids have been playing alot recently and I want my own force as they've 'stolen' mine

My previous Warbands..
I made a couple of warbands a few years ago for Fabled Realms (less said about that the better). With the new edition of frostgrave I repurposed some dwarves and humans I have for use in the game.
We’ve had loads of fun playing with these but I think I want a force of my own now my boys have stolen these two.

Discovering Black Scorpions Miniatures
After Black Scorpions minis were shown on a weekender a few weeks ago I went along to have a look at their Pirates. I then found their fantasy models and straight away fell in love with them.
These mercenaries are so characterful I picked them up straight away, they’re all based and basecoated ready to paint.
I think I’m going to go with a Old world empire style paint scheme for all of them. Maybe Reikland, I’m not 100% yet though.
I imagine these guys being the first people that their officer saw before leaving to support a wizard. Needed a small retinue he told them to grab their gear and follow him
The officer had to be this guy, he is absolutely awesome. I think he’s called the grand master of the knights citadel. I see him as a scarred veteran disgruntled with the fact he’s been charged with the defence of a wizard and her apprentice on the road ahead.
I still need to figure out names for them all but at the moment I’m excited to get some paint on them
Painting the Captain
I couldn’t help but get to painting the Grand Master straight away, he was definitely going to become my Captain.
Such an awesome miniature
First step was to get him based and base coated.
I used a fine sand and a couple of small pebbles that I had sat in my hobby box, the whole mini was then base coated with the GW spray wraith bone
Then it was onto painting him, I wanted a quick paint scheme for this guy, I just want to get him on the table as quick as possible. I decided to go with the contrast paints as they’ve worked well on these style paint schemes in the past.

Painting the Troops
The next minis to add to the new warband are of course the mercenaries. Black Scorpion have these awesome guys that I came across the same time as the Grand Master.
Because they’re all individual sculpts they’re ideal for this size game, added all these will give me a pretty big warband so I can pic and choose (unless I’m playing a campaign of course).

Getting some colour down...
It was then onto painting…
I went with a similar scheme to my Captain (the grand master). I originally wanted to go down an Empire route, almost Reikland. I also came across a flag of the knights of Ibelin from the crusades that’s also a similar colour.

You can see my painting down below in the Vlog and mostly self explanatory. I went with a bunch of contrast paints, the main 2 colours of the tabbards were Blood Angles Red and Skeleton Horde.

A wizard and her apprentice
I wanted something a little different than the ‘traditional’ wizards I’ve seen in the game. Plus I wanted something easily recognisable as this is a game I’m playing a lot with my kids.
Having a look around the various sites online I came across two models from Hasslefree that would be perfect. Namely the Archmage Raisa and the young Cara. Having watched Frozen 2 recently these jumped out at me as being perfect for creating Elsa and Anna.

Basing and Base Coat
Basing wise I did the same as the previous minis, a little fine sand and a few very small pebbles to act as rocks.
The base coat was then applied to both the minis, which was again Wraith Bone Spray from GW.
Painting VLOG
The VLOG below takes you through how I painted each miniature, I actually broke out some of my ‘real’ paints as opposed to the contrast ones I’ve been using a lot lately.

An extra few Dwarves...
While this Blog has been for my warband I also picked up a few dwarves too for my sons.
They needed to fit into what I’d done before so I had to stick to that paint scheme

Painting Vlog
As with the other entries I’ve done a Vlog for the painting of the minis, I mainly concentrated on the wizard and then just talk through the differences with ht other minis at the end.
I did try to use some contrast paints too where I could to shorted the painting time.
