Having started and now finished my unit of Hessian Jagers’s, I moved on to the Colonial side of the Project again and built and painted some continental militiamen, I went with the Recomendation from Oriskany Jim, on the Green Mountain Boys…

So today I spent a fair few hour’s, down the bottom of the garden painting in the shed until I decided, fuck me its to cold, but before the fuck me moment I managed to get the lions share of my Hessian Jager unit painted up, 5 down just 3 to go.

Coincidently yesterday I received my asset drop subscription box and in there were two brand new paints not actually released yet from warcolours, there Antithesis range, a Olive Green and a Brown, and I thought they would be perfect to paint the jagers with, but yet did I know how well they would turn out.

As I used the Antithesis Olive I soon realised it seemed quite thin before realising very soon after that, its a contrast type paint… Now the name of the range, Antithesis makes sense…..

Now that I have a Unit done for both side’s, its back to the side of the Crown, tonight I’ll be building some Hessian Jagers, to act as skirmishers.

But now I’m going to ask you lovely people, what Unit shall the dastardly rebels of the colonies get next? will it be some militia or another Line Infantry unit that gets built and painted, and from which state will they come from, the choice is yours…

With both Side’s, I actually only did block colours, I’m still considering wether to give them a wash and/or Highlights yet.
As for the 1st Maryland, this is how I went

Primed with Halfords Grey Primer

Painted the Jacket with Imperial Blue from Vallejho Game air

Painted the Britches with Linen White from Reaper minis

Strapping and Turnbacks were painted with Kimera Kolours

Facing’s, collars and Cuffs were treated with Scale 75’s Baal Crimson

And then the Rifle with painted with Life Colour Japanese Linoleum Deck for the wooden Furniture and Scale 75s Black Metal for the Metal Parts,

Flesh was done in either Scale 75s Golden Flesh and Light Flesh to give a bit of variety.

As with most new projects, I took two built minis, one for either side, the Colonials and the British. And I did a quick test scheme on them to see how I wanted to do them.

For guidance I used the Painting Guides from Bacchus to help me decide on units and colouring.

from the guide I decided my first units would be for the british, the 70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot, with Black Facings, and the colonials, the 1st Maryland Regiment.

So with black friday coming and going, a Lockdown in the UK, (I’m still going out to work each day 🙁 ) and the christmas holidays approaching. I decided I wanted a big project to sink my teeth into, a Warzan type project, I decided I’d take a set build it all, paint it all and make a self contained game with some custom ruleset/scenarios.

I’ve always been interested in the American war of Independence and the American Civil War, so thought I would go with one of these two, after a few days ponderings and hummings and harrings over the Warlord Liberty or Death box set or Perrys Battle in a box set for ACW, I settled on the Warlord set and the AWI theme, so off i went and ordered my set and waited for it to arrive…

Damn this is a big box….
