About the Project

Since my other projects suffer from immens brexit and corona delays I thought I can work on some other stuff of my pile of shame. For now it will be this Vietnam project. I started with an US Marines but I think it will later on include some tanks at least one Huey. For a second fraction I can finally use some of Khurasans Itu‘a minis as wierdcong.

Testcolours for the bugs

I got some spare time to paint so I choose 4 of my bugs to test out the colours and a workflow to go with.

Like the Marines these guys got some heavy black lining. For the colours I went close to the ones from the Khurasan website.

Wierdcong

So while searching for some ideas on an enemy force to fight my Marines I decided to go full off topic and bought some wierd space bugs.

These little critters were on my wishlist for quiet a time now but I never had an opportunity to buy and use them.

Basically there are five different subspecies I chose to run as an count as Vietcong force.

The smallest one is the leader which is the pilot of this big bio weapon creature. He will count as a 4 man unit.

Next in line is the regular bug with the claws on the bag and the weapon bug right next to it. Those will be VC with AK and VC with RPG.

The bigger guys are some elite/bodyguard bugs which I will probably use as fanatics or other special unit.

Part 2 - dustoff chopper

I build up a 1/100 UH-1 kit from revell to get one of the most iconic choppers from the vietnam war.

As I started this project I thought about how to fit in a UH-1 to go with my marines as they did not use those choppers ad far as I know. So I ended up building mine as a dustoff or medevac/casevac helicopter… and I think I will need him alot.

The kit is quiet nice for what it costs but also fiddly and I think not the youngest. I painted the windows the same way I did on my team yankee cobras. Those clear parts just look a bit weird because they are way to thick.

Part 1- the USMC

The minis I got for my USMC arw Battlefronts nam range and really great little sculpts.

Since we will playing pretty small scale operations I just assembled one understenght squad (with the 3rd fireteam still on the workbench)

For painting I was heavily inspired by the Lead under the  Bed blog which you can find here: https://leadunderthebed.blogspot.com/2013/04/vietnam-us-infantry-painting-guide.html?m=1

To get some vehicles into my list I will later on add one or two M50 Ontos for ground support and an UH-1 MEDEVAC to get my woundet out of the combat zone.

We will using the Force on Force rules wich have some pretty nasty Vietnam additions.

That will be a tough time for my grunts.
