About the Project
While completing another spring clean project I came across some old miniatures that were still in the box from LotR and as I happened to of just got the battle of Osgiliath box, and I have a Mûmak from a previous spring clean challenge. I thought I would dig out the miniatures from Return of the King box (these were painted not the usual primed and left) and try and get some paint on the new and old stuff.

Painting a Christmas present
I was lucky enough to get these for Christmas but due to the GW’s made to order schedule they only arrive recently.
Although these are the transparent green plastic one that don’t need painting I did dry brush the top half with Grey Seer and then put a green wash over that and then a gloss varnish. I’ve added an image below with unpainted one on the left, the middle one is dry brushed and the one on the right has the dry brush and the green wash.
Also if anyone is looking to get these they are more fragile than normal plastics there is even a warning in the box, so don’t drop them.
Out of time
So it looks like I’m out of time on this years spring clean challenge, so this is the last post here are the last for a while. I still have the buildings to do and the basing to sort out.
I’ve finished the heroes from the battle for Osgiliath box and I’ve based them and 4 for the troopers with Milliput and green stuff world cobblestone roller and then painted to match the scheme I intend for the buildings when I get to it. The scatter terrain has been repainted to match this scheme as well.
Ring Wraiths
I started out with the wraith on a black horse but it was a bit samey to the wraith and after looking at the pictures from the films they are brown horses. I always thought they were on black horses for some reason.
Haradri Raiders
I think these are the raiders with a chief with a sword, but they are old so they don’t totally match the current GW range. I’ve painted them to match up with the Mumak I painted in a previous spring clean challenge.

The fighting Uruk-hai
I realised I hadn’t posted these, mainly metalics with a black wash applied so pretty straight forward.
Does anyone know anywhere that does decals with white hand prints? I could try and freehand it but that never normally goes well.
Now for the Spring Clean bit
Finally we get to the spring clean bit.
While rummaging around in the loft for some tyranids I came across these:
- Mordor orcs
- Warriors of Harad
- The fighting Uruk-hai
- Heroes of the west
- Gothmog
- Haradrum Chieftain mounted and on foot
- 4 Haradrim Raiders
- Haradrim Champion
- Haradrim Banner Bearer
- Ring Wrath mounted and on foot
The heroes of the West (all in lovely metal) box has:
- Aragon
- Gimli
- Legolas
- Faramir
- Eomer
- Eowyn
- Gandalf
- Merry
- Pippin
New Forces of Evil
These are models from the Battle of Osgiliath box. Still need to base them but I haven’t worked out what I want there yet.
Old forces of Evil
These are orcs from the return of the king box, perhaps a bit to clean for my tastes these days but they do need a dust/wash.
Old Forces of Good
These are forces of good from the return of the king box painted in the dim and distant past. I’m using a new black backdrop from Green stuff world, its hard to keep clean and you will notice any dust in the photos.
Making a start
These are scatter terrain that came in the Return of the King box, I thought I would paint them up to test the scheme I planned for the ruins.
I started the one of the left before I realised I hadn’t taken any pictures of them.
