About the Project

Over the next few months, I’ll be attempting to scratchbuild a modular series of clean sci-fi corridors and rooms. Think Starfleet space craft or the Tantive IV rather than gothic or industrial.

This is all about low/no-cost and I’m really not sure it’ll work, but here’s the main building material.

Materials

They’re contact lens packaging. I wear daily disposables so I get about 60 of these in an average month. I’ve always felt there’s something that I can do with these in the hobby space – just look at the neat shapes and the bubble window!

The aim is to take advantage of the bubble window and the angled lip on each one to use them as walls for spaceship corridors.

I’ll always start with a moodboard. It gives me ideas of what I could do and helps me start thinking about the kinds of materials I might want to look out for.

I’ve been quite slow getting off the blocks on this one, but let’s see how we go.

With my love of Star Trek, and more optimistic sci-fi, I wanted to try and create some terrain that would fit with the aesthetic of a better future. More like places to live in rather than “grimdark and gothic”.

In addition to that, my goal is to scratchbuild as much as possible using very cheap low/no-cost materials.

I’m not 100% certain what I’m going to build or even if it will work – so this plog will be very experimental and may ultimately be a complete failure!
