About the Project

Lord of the Rings. It's a thing. And my daughter loves it. So much she's seen all Peter Jackson movies (yes that includes The Hobbit ones) multiple times. So what would be a nice gift for her birthday? A nice little diorama!

After a nice painting stream all minis where properly painted. After that, all that was left was adding Talent In A Bottle (aka wash) to pull it all together.

Now all that is left is the base for the diorama. Wish me luck!

…absolutely the same. What did you expect? Now some riders, tiny folk and a wizard. Blocking in colours first.

Of course a diorama needs a backdrop. I am thinking about doing a blend of Minas Tirith and Barad-dûr.

Not sure how good that will work but that’s a problem for future me.

Before I’m starting to wrap my brain around how I should paint the good guys I am going to nick @brennon ‘s work.

BTW Ben, what happened to the plans of a 10mm Balins tomb? Spring clean 2025?

Bad guys done. Almost

Colours all set and done. Did an overall wash with (you’ve guessed it) a 50:50 mix of DIY Lamian Medium and Nuln Oil. Now these need to dry.

The grass is always greener...

Next stop: all the leather bits done in Hardened Leather and the wooden pits with 50:50 mix of Warpaint Fanatics Oak Brown and SpeedPaint Medium.

Tiny details are TINY!

Upsi, missed a spot

Yes I missed some pictures. Everything got cleaned up, primed white and washed with a 50:50 mix of either DIY Lamian Medium and Agrax Earthshade or Medium and Nuln Oil.

That gives so much better visuals on where the tiny details are!

After all that had dried I started with a 50:50 mix of Highlord Blue and Grim Black for the robes, just Grim Black for the mounts and a 50:50 mix of Grim Black and Hardened Leather which didn’t give me a dark brown but a fancy green-brown. Didn’t wanted to go “green Orcs” but I like that colour.

On the first day there was cleanup

Tiny 10mm miniatures. Metal minis. Of course there needs to be some cleaning to be done! And these are just the “god guys”!
