Space Marine Dev Diary II – Combat System

The excitement is building as the guys from THQ up their game to bring us a fantastic new insight into the soon to be released Warhammer40,000 Space Marine Video Game.
This time we get another glimpse of the development decisions behind the set up of the 40K universe focusing on the Combat System.
Is it me or is that chainsword just the coolest thing I've seen in ages. What ever happened to the chainsword in 40K? I remember back in the day when chainswords were cool... now they're just fancy metal clubs.
Space Marine is scheduled to be released worldwide for the Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 and PC on September 6 2011.

We had it on You Tube But when our channel got Nuked we lost it, but we’re working on getting things back up to speed.

I loved everything thing in this video… except the small toy size las-cannon… I’m so excited for this game!!!
I agree, that las-cannon was tiny lol
its more like a Las-gun that a Las-cannon. Give it to the guardsmen they should be carrying it, Marines dont need no flashlights
I hope that Dark Millenium would be as cool as this one!
Only issue i have is with the weapons like the lascannon and plasma gun, From everything i know in the fluff these weapons are slow but powerful, they seem to fire way too fast in this game but i suppose it wouldn’t be fair to ranged players if the guns took ages to charge after each shot. Here’s hoping that they include as much of the SM wargear as possible, I’d prefer to see a melee weapon and pistol combo compared to a 2 handed gun/sword combo it showed off. Not true of the Plasma Gun which is a rapidfire weapon. The Lascannon is all wrong but the plasma gun is spot on minus it blowing your own arms off >.<

And oh yes….this.looks.epic.
Looking very good so far, apart from the lascannon, which just looks lame. It needs much more of an kick, and a much bigger energy blast.
This is coming out a couple of weeks before Gears of war 3, yet more games i’ll just have to force myself to buy, *sighs*
Ehm… one thing i didn’t like is that the Spacemarine’s face is always with the same expression -.- , no screaming angry or determinated face but more like he is having a haircut -.- .
I’m actually more excited by the GW related computer games than by what GW does itself…definitely worth…renting bwhahahahahahaha 🙂
Seriously I’m looking forward to playing it, overwhelming violent silliness – I’m all for that. The Lascannon does look silly though 🙁
I won’t mind if its just a hack and slash button basher: its warhammer! LOTR: ROTK was pretty much that and that was a lot of fun.

After a long time of waiting we final get to find the release data. Looks like their something i need to get before gamesday.
I saw Chaos Daemons and Choas Space Marines. Now I’m really excited. Maybe there will be a downloadable expansion for a Tyranid campaign. September can’t come soon enough.

On a other note, could you turn off the autoplay on the videos, because if I revisit the article for the comments it plays the video with a 30s advertisement and you cannot stop it -_-

OMG…… this looks awesome even if it is about smurfs. Chaos Marines YAY!!!!! lots of blood YAY!! Orks YAY!! overall i think this game will be awesome. Although the release date, September, hmmm might be overshadowed to Gears of War 3 which i have been told is out in September as well. But i will be getting this for PC.
I love the bit where the marine smashes the Ork’s head with his own shield!!!! Class! 🙂

The game seemed to hint that the plasma guns could be charged. Perhaps they can be overcharged as well, but I’m just guessing
No multiplayer coop mentioned 🙁 No buy if no coop (sadface)
co-op in what appears to be a button-mashing killfest? Not exactly the grounds for massive teamplay experiences 😉
Yeah, but it would be perfect for Split-Screen co-op. Would really hope to see that!
What cant be more fun than massive co-op with alot of blood and gore. Lets say my friends are a bit….Khorney!
