Studio Sparta Expand the Worlds Created by Spartan Games
August 17, 2012 by brennon
Spartan Games might be taking control of the Dystopian Legions game but what about the other worlds within the Spartan universe? That falls to Studio Sparta who are expanding and creating games and miniatures for both Firestorm Armada and Uncharted Seas!
First up on the roster is Firestorm Invasion which you can see some models for above. The game takes you onto the planets of the Firestorm world and allows you to add another layer to your gaming narrative. Miniatures are all in 10mm scale and include tanks, infantry, mech suits and even flyers.
Next up is the world of Uncharted Seas which is going to be seeing these 28mm Shore Parties arrive for The Forbidden Isles skirmish game. Anyone who has some of the more up to date rulebooks will know there are a fair few more models on the way for this.
But that's not all. Studio Sparta are also working on more models and miniatures for Of Gods and Men (A game of Greek Mythology), as well as miniatures to add into Dystopian Wars and Uncharted Seas. For Dystopian Wars you have the 'Invaders' who while not part of the timeline allow you to add a new level of Sci-Fi to proceedings. Then there's the Goliath Giant for smashing boats to pieces in Uncharted Seas.
So what do you think of Studio Sparta?

I really like the idea for Firestorm Invasion. Fight space naval battles with the fleet sets, then drop mechanised 10mm divisions all over the enemy planet to smash their infrastructure and major defenses, moving on to fight and hold key objectives with 15mm troop battles before finally decapitating the enemy command with some daring 28mm Spec Ops missions. And it’s all hard sci-fi based. Very cool indeed for those who like running detailed and epic campaigns.
And the minis so far look fantastic =D
Soooo much eye candy. I’ve been dreaming of a planetside extension for Firestorm Armada, and here it is. Also, loving the more serious style of the orcs. Can’t stand the cartoony stuff.
Interesting approach and cool stuff. The Invasion stuff looks nice.
The Firestorm Invasion concept really reminds me of what Catalyst has been doing with the Battletech rules. They’ve created essentially four unique games in the same universe that operate at different scales, Interstellar conflict, Planet-wide conflict, Skirmish Battles and character-driven roleplay. All of these rulesets can interact with each other to form a single sprawling campaign in the Battletech universe if you really want them to. It seems like Firestorm Invasion’s three scales (and, would expect this includes Firestorm Armada for a fourth scale) operate on a similar concept, being essentially three different games you can play separately or all… Read more »
This seems to by Dropzone Commanders main competition. They both look great, and this has Spartan backing it up with seemingly lower cost…but I still think Hawk Wargames models are sharper and offer more “wow” factor.
But I’m extremely psyked for Dystopian Legions!
I really like the Firestorm Armada models (I plan to get into FA as my next addiction) and I like the aesthetic they’ve achieved so far. I demoed Dropzone at GenCon, and it was fun, but it wasn’t “Wow! I love this game!” fun. The minis are cool, but none of them have really grabbed me yet. The terrain is the most impressive part of that game so far for me. Whereas, I really like the Firestorm aesthetic already AND with the multiple scales and scopes–including the Firestorm Armada game–I can have some really fun multi-system campaign shenanigans that Dropzone… Read more »
Agreed. I love the idea of grand campaigns and clashing space armadas, followed by the planetside struggle for supremacy. While it is hard to ignore the obvious eye candy of Dropzone Commander, I like the Firestorm Invasion concept. The models may not be as good…yet…but as the line expands I’m sure we’ll see improvement.
Ok, so now I’ve narrowed down my next addiction slightly. It will either be Napoleonics, Ancient Greek/Persian, Roman, or the whole Firestorm series. Help me…please.
