Fantasy Flight Games has been spilling the beans on what's going to be happening with rotation in Star Wars: Destiny. It's been a while since we've heard anything on this topic but it appears like we're going to get three tiers of play to work with.

Star Wars Destiny All Products

The simple breakdown of the formats is that we're going to see Standard, Trilogy and Infinite take the reins over the next few months as we look towards a new set of Starter Packs and more boosters for the game.

  • The Standard format consists of the two most recent cycles and all products that are part of an unreleased cycle.
  • The Trilogy format consists solely of the most recent cycle and all products that are part of an unreleased cycle.
  • The Infinite format consists of all products currently released.

This means that wherever you are in the Star Wars: Destiny spectrum you're going to get a chance to play in tournaments. I'm sure that some of these formats are going to become more popular than others but I like the tighter regulations which should force people to begin developing new strategies and changing the meta.

Star Wars Destiny Cycle Examples

This is an example of how things stand currently. As someone who hasn't entirely bought into Empire At War as much as the previous booster boxes, I'm looking forward to seeing what the new set has to offer and where the game goes next.

Prize Support

There's also going to be a change in the way prizes and organised play works with Star Wars: Destiny as they have also announced their Galactic Qualifiers.

Galactic Qualifier Prizes

These massive events will feature the chance to play in all manner of different formats mentioned above, but they will all include a Trilogy aspect to them so even the newest of players will have a chance to compete and hopefully feel like they're not behind the curve.

When it comes to prizes, there will be a plethora of goodies on offer as you can see above. You will earn Prize Credits for your games and then you can go up to the table and cash in those credits for some of these alternative art cards as well as wonderful playmats.

This certainly sounds like a fun idea and maybe I'll have to scope out the next Galactic Qualifier and secure a place!

What do you think of the changes and announcements?
