New Starter Sets & More For Star Wars: Legion This Year!
March 31, 2025 by brennon
Atomic Mass Games announced an avalanche of reveals for their Sci-Fi wargame, Star Wars: Legion, over the weekend. There are brand new Starter Sets alongside a host of updated sets for heroes, villains and more, covering all of the movies and TV shows.
Rebel Alliance Starter Set // Star Wars: Legion
We start with the classic Star Wars trilogy and the Starter Sets for both the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. Each Starter Set comes with everything that a player needs to get started with both miniatures, dice and tokens included.
Galactic Empire Starter Set // Star Wars: Legion
Each of the sets features a 600-point Recon-level army alongside a new sculpt for each of the iconic commanders! The troops they are commanding are all in the newer hard plastic from Atomic Mass Games so they are nice and easy to build and come packed with detail. You'll note that the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire come with new miniatures for Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.
Moving to the Clone Wars-era, you can get miniatures for the Galactic Republic featuring Obi-Wan leading his Clones into the fighting.
Galactic Republic Starter Set // Star Wars: Legion
This gives you a classic match-up when you throw the Separatist Alliance into the mix as your enemies! You can have Obi-Wan Kenobi going up against General Grievous as Clones battle Droids across the many planets of the galaxy.

The Starter Sets are going to be coming in the latter half of this year, so you've still got a little bit of time to work out which one you're going to be picking up. There will also be a new pack of components, so you can just snap all of the gubbins up if you already have a bunch of miniatures.
New Essentials // Star Wars: Legion
I have a lot of Rebel-era miniatures already from the first version of Legion so I think it might be time to have a crack at the Clone Wars era. I am quite tempted by lots and lots of droids!
More New Miniatures!
One of the neat new options that Atomic Mass Games has been working on is the introduction of these new Customisable Commanders & Operative sets so you can start building your own unique heroes to lead your armies into battle. These are great for Legion, but they could also be a great option for those wanting miniatures for roleplaying games.

The sets come with a bunch of different weapons, alternative heads and body builds. As well as being an aesthetic choice, this also introduces options for players to customise their Commander and Operatives in-game, tweaking their rules alongside new upgrades to unlock additional strategies.

A "make your own Jedi" set for the Clone Wars-era is absolutely spot on. As nice as the new Starter Sets are and all of the other stuff that you'll see below, I think these are THE hit of the reveal. I love any way for you to personalise an army and this is just the ticket.
Fans of Star Wars will have loads of options over the coming year with great sets for you to scoop up if you're seeking characters in particular.
Heroes Of The Rebellion // Star Wars: Legion
Heroes Of The 501st // Star Wars: Legion
Imperial High Command // Star Wars: Legion
Some BIG characters are popping up with glorious new miniatures for you to use in your games. Again, even if you're not playing Star Wars: Legion, sets like these could end up being good for collectors and painters.
One of the character sets that I was particularly drawn to was this excellent new miniature for General Grievous On Wheel Bike! He looks super cool charging across the battlefield, running down Clones and Jedi.

This is by no means all of the releases coming out from Atomic Mass Games. If you want to get a look at more of what they're working on, you can check out the full blog HERE.
Pirates Ahoy!
One set of miniatures I did want to highlight was the Weequay Pirates! How could you not love these folks scrapping their way across the galaxy and pilfering whatever they can? Hando Ohnaka takes the lead and this set is looking like a brilliant way to kick off 2026.

You can even go all out and get your hands on the WLO-5 Speeder Tank, which could be very handy when you're dealing with the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance.

Those are already a lot of options for those diving into Star Wars: Legion over the course of 2025 and 2026. As mentioned above, this is by no means everything that was revealed by Atomic Mass at AdeptiCon but it gives you a taster of what they have planned. It looks like Legion isn't going anywhere!
Are you going to be picking up one of those new Starter Sets?

So the “bad news” is: you’ll be needing new cards. You’ll be able to buy them sometime around August 2025. The “good news”: According to a friend of mine (who works with Asmodee Germany on the translations!) has told me that the new cards will be available FOR FREE to download and print starting April 15th. And those PDFs will include all the other “cardboard items” that belong to the game. So depending on how much the cards and “essential” packs will cost I’ll go either “print myself” or “buy all the stuff”. I really do hope this will get… Read more »
I’m still baffled that they did not hold off last years big rules update & packaging refresh *until* these new starters launched. But then the list of “but why??” questions related to AMG and how they handle the Star Wars games they “inherited” from FFG is one that just continues to increase…..
Too many plates to keep them all spinning I guess.
maybe they were hoping for Disney to release one good Starwars movie and have now given up hope ?
Free downloads should be an option in every game that uses cards, so this is good to hear. Also means you don’t have to have an app at the table, happy days!
Sunday Monday happy days
Tuesday Wednesday happy days
Thursday Friday happy days
Saturday what a day
Rockin’ all week for you
Ehhhhhhh!
That’s a lot of new releases. Maybe the Legion ‘fire sale’ is not going to happen anytime soon.
I bought the Echo Base set last year, so don’t need any more miniatures, but if the cards are a reasonable price I may upgrade to current edition. Can’t print myself as they will look awful on my black and white laser printer.
Most of the stuff for 2025 are either “repacks” of existing sets or (like the Stormtroopers and Rebels) retooling from “plastic bag single minis” to actual minis on sprue. Sorastro had shown the new minis build but unpainted and they do look a lot crisper. I am tempted.
Not to be a stereotypical librarian but maybe look at printing at your local library. They usually have pretty good modern machines; I print a lot of game stuff on ours and they look good.
Amazing how many new releases they have previewed and great to see the whole range move to hard plastic. It also feels like the prices are evening out a bit. Troop sets now contain 11 models, potentially two squads or at least one ‘blob’ squad.
the new rules supposedly allow for ‘bigger’ squads.
So it remains to be seen how much value one box gets …
That is correct. A Stormtrooper squad for example, can now be 4, 5 or 9 models, plus you can add a heavy weapon. The only issue is that you only get one leader in these sets, although you could easily resolve that with paint work.
I do like the idea of proper plastic versus whatever horrid stuff they were made of before. Unpaintium I think it was called.
The old minis weren’t that bad. After all: I painted them all XD
that’s because they were afraid of you 😉
Afraid? Of me? I’m such a gentle soul!
but you’re German …
you might start yet another Blitz Krieg 😉
General Grievous On Wheel Bike I shall have.
Cracking looking model isn’t it.
Arrh! those pirates !
These are very tempting looking sets but price is what has kept me away from the game up until now. As with anything, price and supply will be key 😂 the chances of one of the starters being under £150-200 seems unlikely.
Agreed … I would love to dive back in and have Jean Luc Picard fight Frodo on Tatooine, but I think I’m out of Infinity Stones for this year.
95 USD for each Starter-Box! 🙂
Very interesting, they seem to have finally learned what a starter box is meant to do. Thanks for finding that out and letting me know.
I doubt it’ll be below 100 USD MSRP. Reason: the trooper box is 49,99 USD and there are two of those in the starter. Add Vader, Scouts, tools and dice. 150 USD is my bet. If it where way below 100 USD they’d be eating into their own profits. BUT currently there are no official prices for the starter boxes that I can find. EDIT: scouts are two boxes also and they also come at 49,99. That’s already 200 for those for boxes plus Vader, dice and tools. It’ll be 199,99 USD.
That’s what I thought but their website says $94.99 in the paragraph just above the video for the starter announcement.

The new plastic kits look good, well the troop sets do. The character sculpts vary from okay to not much like the originals. They seem oddly off in comparison to those which have Shatterpoint equivalents.
i agree with other commenters about the characters being the weaker sculpts (or maybe paint jobs?) i feel the imperial high command is missing a lot of dynamism. i know generals/admirals arent known for personally kicking ass and taking names but i feel Thrawn could absolutely fit into that box and be presented in his light combat armour in at least a ‘pointing over there commanding troops to go forth and vanquish the enemy’ pose. currently, he is basically a reverse sculpt of tarkin.
grievous on bike is 11/10 and i really like both pirate packs too
