Star Wars: Legion Starter Sets Planned For Autumn 2025
May 7, 2025 by brennon
Atomic Mass Games has been previewing the Starter Sets that you're going to be able to pick up later in the year for use in Star Wars: Legion, their Sci-Fi wargame that covers battles from both the original movies and the prequels.
The Rebel Alliance Starter Set // Star Wars: Legion
We'll start with the Rebel Alliance and the original movies. Here you can see what you get inside the set, which makes up a Recon-level army for your games. The army is led by Luke Skywalker, who finds themselves backed up in their struggle against the Empire by Rebel Troopers who make up the core of your army. Wookiee Warriors cap off this collection and give your rebellion a bit more oomph.
This shows off the new hard-plastic kits for the Rebel Troopers and the mixture of options that you get with the kit when it comes to heads and weapons. It's good that they stepped away from just focusing on the human element of the Rebellion, forgetting all of the aliens that joined in!
If you're looking to suppress this rebellion, then you'll want to bring the main man into the mix in the form of Darth Vader. He leads this army made up of mostly Stormtroopers, but with a set of Scout Troopers watching the path ahead for ambushes.
Galactic Empire Starter Set // Star Wars: Legion
You get an excellent and imperious-looking Darth Vader at the head of this force, staring down his enemies and giving the look of both a commander and a brutal warrior. The new Stormtroopers are also excellent and once again showcase the detail that you can get from the hard-plastic kits.
The Clone Wars
If you'd prefer to dive into the battles of the Clone Wars then you will also be able to get your hands on a full army for the Galactic Republic.
Galactic Republic Starter Set // Star Wars: Legion
General Obi-Wan Kenobi leaps into the fray alongside a fellow Jedi Knight. They will be guiding a set of Clone Troopers, ARC Troopers and ARF Troopers as they hunt down clankers and send the Separatist Alliance packing. As someone who already has a fairly sizable Rebel army, I could be tempted to instead buy into the Clone Wars with Obi-Wan and friends.
If you prefer the endless multitudes of the Separatist Alliance then you can also see about enacting the will of the Sith with this Starter Army.
Separatist Alliance Starter Set // Star Wars: Legion
The fearsome Jedi-killer General Grievous leads the way in this force, carving his way through whatever stands before him. He is backed up by a host of B1 Battle Droids, B2 Battle Droids (the coolest Droids) and also the brutal Droidekas. Fall in and march out to suppress the galaxy with ranks upon ranks of droids later this year.
As well as featuring all of the miniatures you need, these Starter Sets are also going to come with measuring tools, dice and tokens so you can get started once you've built your box of miniatures. Rules for Star Wars: Legion are all online HERE, including the Recon Rules, which suit armies of this size.

Originally I was happy that AMG is actually trying to get the train running again but I wasn’t to keen on “re-buying” all the core troops.
But Sorastro had shared some pics of the Stormtroopers build but unpainted and man, do they look nice. Given the fact that unit sizes have been increased in model numbers I’m highly tempted to grab a few new boxes.
CURSES! My wallet is crying.
I think they are aware of the fact that “re-buying” is a sensible topic. The price of 95$ for the starters is crazy good value. Not only for starting players but also for the “old” players with the mentioned problem. I will def pick one starter up…maybe 2…or 3…maybe all 4 😉
yes. ~58% cheaper than buying individual Empire boxes. Madness!
Still not finished painting my Hoth starter abd I don’t have an opponent with an army so lost the motivation. Bolt Action is our wargame for now with DMH and 7TV for smaller battles.
I like the idea of new hard plastic Stormtroopers, the early materials were not pleasant. I sold off all my old Star Wars, but might pick up more.
Does anyone know if these are new models? Hopefully easy to assemble? I had the hardest time trying to glue together the original battle droids in the old starter set. I thought they were too thin, too fiddly, and I couldn’t even tell if I had put things on backwards or not. When it came to the droidekas I took one look at the assembly sheet and gave up. The company was very excited about switching to the sprue format, but it killed the game for me. I liked the original empire/rebel box because that soft plastic was easy to… Read more »
Interesting to see how people are divided over the old and new models. I quite liked how easily the old models were to throw together and get on the table, but I also love the B1 models. I think the expectation of the majority of the gaming community is higher quality, which generally means hard plastic models on sprues.
These new army boxes are all hard plastic/sprues, which will please some and does allow for more modelling options. It also means more assembly time though.
I asked about those sprues and the answer I got from people that had a hands on: Yes, they are plastic sprues. No, not pose-able. They are still “notched” like the original plastic bag minis. So there is no change there accept you have to cut them from the sprue and not take them out of the bag. But the new plastic should make kit-bashing, posing and clean-up much easier. I think it’s a good trade because more than once people where complaining about pieces missing in their bags. A normal sprue should mitigate that.
That does sound like a good compromise. I just hope they go back to including a few more options like they did with units like the Wookies, Magnaguard, Maul etc…
I guess they will to a small degree. Those units you mentioned are later releases that already came on plastic sprues IIRC.
Thank you very much for checking in on this!
Their looking brilliant for the game table’s I’ll order 66 of them ?
So you’re an Imperial player! 😘
Dark Helmet: So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb.
Spaceballs is fun movie.
One of my all time favourites.
Nice starter sets, just want game to use them for? I’ve found Legion to be tedious at times, the whole card upgrade, nuanced timing issues just gets in the way of the game for me. Reading through the new rulebook has not brought any enthusiasm either, the mission construction is overly tedious too.
I’m with you. I like the models and Star Wars, but the last time I collected these, I binned everything except the models and just collected. (The cards I sent to a friend who uses 3D prints).
i saw there was a little bit of ‘meh’ from the OTT team about the vader pose.

if i pointed out that the pose was this
from Rogue One where he has just murdered his way through the crew of the Profundity would it change your minds?
it’s basically pissed off I’m gonna get ya Vader pose
