Pillage! New Wargame Coming Soon From Victrix Miniatures
April 4, 2025 by brennon
Victrix Miniatures has announced a new Middle Ages wargame alongside the folks at Noodle Wargames. Pillage: Ransack The Middle Ages will be coming soon and makes use of the awesome range of Dark Age miniatures and more that Victrix produces in 28mm plastic.
Pillage // Victrix Games
Pillage has been designed to recreate the cinematic moments of the Middle Ages as riders burn down villages, assault forts and "pillage" villages. You can take on the role of the staunch defenders or the fearsome aggressors looking to claim the land of your opponents.
The system focuses on storytelling and objective-based play, where your miniatures are heroes and cowards who will carve out a saga of their own for good or ill. The first book focuses on the period of 793 and the Lindisfarne Abbey raid all the way through to 1066 and the Battle of Hastings. It can also be adapted to suit the battles of Antiquity and further into the Middle Ages.
Pillage - Rules Preview // Victrix
Games are meant to take one or two hours to play, and you'll often be battling on a 48" x 48" table. Your forces will be made up of between fifteen and thirty warriors per side cover one of seven factions like the Vikings, Franks, Anglo-Saxons, Normans, Bretons, Welsh and the Irish (as well as the Picts and Scots). Each has their own unique characteristics and you'll need to learn how they play in order to master their tactics.
Village Raid // Victrix
Pillage has you setting your own objectives, like looting a monastery, capturing treasure from a raid or taking hostages. All of your miniatures will be considered WYSISYG (What You See Is What You Get), meaning the choice of equipment you bring to battle will actually matter and the combat system relies on understanding your warriors' arsenal. Will you go for a heavily armed and armoured force of elite soldiers or a rag-tag force of warriors raised from the fields with their spears and shields?
Heroes Clash // Victrix
You will be able to dive into classic Dark Age warfare techniques like the forming of shieldwalls and you can draw on fearsome warriors like the Viking berserkers and the Saxon Huscarls with their brutal Dane Axes. There are even rules for playing naval battles!
Viking Longship // Victrix
All in all, Pillage sounds spot on and I'm very interested to see what Victrix and Noodle Wargames do with it going forward. Victrix has announced that four big plastic Army Boxes are on the way with a mixture of infantry, cavalry, missile troops and command figures, which will give you everything you need to get started. Plus, there are loads of bonus plastic kits and surprises on the way.
Are you going to be keeping an eye on Pillage?

Back when men were men, and sheep were nervous! 🐑
RAWR, pillage! Ransack! Burn!
This sounds like a lot of fun.
And that longship is sorely needed in the miniatures market, there hasn’t been a proper nice kit produced yet!
Sheep are still nervous in some parts of the country.
I know it’s just a render, but that book looks to be about three thousand pages long, which is enough to scare people off from a 1-2 hour skirmish game, especially when it feels like the gaming market is pointing towards shorter, simpler fare.
The first 2500 pages are probably ‘trigger warnings’ for sensitive souls that might be offended by the concept of pillage, plunder and graphic content.
That does seem to be a requirement in rules system now.
“Also may cause dizziness, flashing lights might make you dance spontaneously”.
Literally every TV show or movie now. 🤣
well we know the page count cause it’s been out for years in France, developed from a clubs ruleset during covid.
the answer is 132 by the way
Merçi!
As the rules will cover Welsh, the Irish, the Picts and Scots and as those are also te be expected as new upcoming Victrix plastic miniature releases and as the Franks are also a covered faction, does this mean that Victrix also has plastic Carolingians lined up ? 😉
Sounds like a great opportunity to try a new game as well as finally using these Saga rules that have been languishing on my shelves (did I mention Ragnarök from Osprey?).
Sounds like a good game system for some good ol’ Irish cattle raiding! Definitely tempted!
This looks right up my street.
