Wargames Illustrated Now Under New Ownership

Wargames Illustrated have announced today that they are no longer under the control of Battlefront Miniatures and instead Dan Faulconbridge now holds the reigns to the tabletop wargaming magazine...
What's What?
Nothing drastic is planned as of yet when it comes to the magazine and it will still be located at its home in Nottingham alongside Battlefront. Flames of War articles will still come out on a regular basis and distribution will still be handled through them.
That's good then! I've recently been picking up a few issues of the magazine over the past few months to get my head into a more historical orientated space away from just the likes of SAGA so I wouldn't want it to go away.
Salute Freebies!
As well as that news they will of course be at Salute 2015 and they have some nice freebies for folks that come over to their booth and have a look at the magazine.
As the image above suggests if you pick up the May issue of the magazine you can get your hands on Simon De Monfort or Toussaint Louverture although if you subscribe you can get Prince Edward!

Yes I do it is of course only one of three Wargaming magazines worth looking at, the other two are not published by GW. Wargaming illustrated has consistently provided the wargaming community with high quality, high standard monthly with a very good spread of every period of historic wargaming and has dipped its toe albeit only in the shallows of the alternative to historical wargaming. It has always been a staple diet for FoW players providing many articles from painting to campaigns. Yup. Generally, if I see one I pick one up, along with Ancient Warfare, and Medieval Warfare. I wonder if they’re going to continue the boycott on fantasy? There really aren’t any magazines out there that cover fantasy and sci-fi wargaming, are there? At least in Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy they threw you a bone in the product review section every now and again.
Ravage covers fantasy and sci-fi.

Like you @piers I have been getting Wargames Illustrated for more years than I care to count, but for me it’s a mag I leave in the toilet for casual reading. Lol I think the content is much the same and repeated quite often, I will admit I can’t fault them for their quality in the printing of the mag itself though. I would buy it if there would be more si-fy and new games introduction, news in general not only historical, i only play FoW so mag doesnt apeal to me at the moment but I do admire what they do and I do flik trough whenever I’m in smith.
I have read WI for many years and currently have a subscription 🙂 This isn’t the first change in ownership that I have weathered. Even though I play FoW I was concerned for awhile but the last year or two they have been starting to add more content apart from FoW. They have shown that they are not going to go the way of the Dwarf. I like the fact that it is only historical minis and that is why I buy it.
There is definitely more Sci-Fi content coming. The June issue is a Post-Apocalyptic special.
