Adeptus Custodes & Genestealer Cults Clash In 40K Shadow Throne

Games Workshop is looking to fire up pre-orders for the new Shadow Throne boxed set which allows folks to dive in and play as the Adeptus Custodes and Genestealer Cults in Warhammer 40,000.

The set comes with the two different factions clashing on the surface of Terra. The Genestealer Cult has arisen from beneath the streets and now threatens the very heart of the Imperium. The Emperor's finest feature the Allarus Custodians, a band of Sisters Of Silence (that can be built as Witchseekers, Vigilators, or Prosecutors), and the absurdly powerful Blade Champion.

The big thing about the Adeptus Custodes is that they are all basically heroes in their own right. Each of them could most likely take on scores of enemies by themselves and barely break a sweat. Whilst it doesn't seem like you've got a lot of miniatures in here for the Adeptus Custodes, honestly, this is a pretty solid force for you to bring to the tabletop.

On the other side of things, we have the Genestealer Cults. Here you have a Patriarch, a band of Neophyte Hybrids, a Magus and a Primus. It's basically the Broodcoven mixed in alongside some additional troops.

Reductus Saboteur - Warhammer 40000

Additionally, the set also comes with the Reductus Saboteur who is there to try and bring the surrounding battlefield down on top of the Adeptus Custodes. She can place explosives all over the place and set them off at just the right time to crush her foes.

I do like that both of these forces represent very different takes on wargaming in the grimdark future. The Adeptus Custodes are focused on very elite warriors taking to the tabletop, battling like epic heroes of an age gone by. The Genestealer Cults by comparison are hiding in the shadows, avoiding battle whenever possible and striking at just the right time with a web of complex plans.

Both feel like factions that take planning to use on the tabletop rather than just pushing them forward into the maw.

Are you going to be picking up Shadow Throne this weekend?
