Chaos Codexes & A Return To Armageddon For Warhammer 40K
March 28, 2025 by brennon
The coming months are going to be a big one for Warhammer 40,000 and fans of Chaos. The Emperor's Children led the way recently with their new codex, but the other Chaos Gods aren't sitting around. The World Eaters, Death Guard and Thousand Sons are also getting new Codexes and a few new miniatures from Games Workshop.
New Chaos Codexes // Warhammer 40,000
All three of the Chaos Codex will come with updated rules for their respective armies as well as reworked and updated Detatchments, which you can use to tailor your army to a particular playstyle. You'll also find up-to-date lore inside, as well as bonus rules for introducing the relevant daemonic forces into each army alongside your mortal warriors.
It makes sense for all of the Codexes to land in quick succession to satisfy the marketing gods but also thematically, it keeps Chaos up to date across the board whether you're throwing your lot in with Abaddon or accepting the gifts of one of the four major powers.
New Miniatures
Each of the Chaos Legions then gets themselves new miniatures. The World Eaters get the Slaughterbound who can lead the already deranged Eightbound to battle as their champion.
Slaughterbound // Warhammer 40,000
This is a monstrously powerful leader for the Eightbound who has been gifted with more strength and power. He gets a twisted and brutal mutated arm to cut down his enemies and if that fails, good old-fashioned chainblades will do the business.
The Death Guard get the virulent Lord Of Poxes who will be using that rather terrifying air-conditioning unit to spread terrible illness across the battlefield.
Lord Of Poxes // Warhammer 40,000
The blade that he carries is also one of the most dangerous in all of Warhammer 40,000, even though it might just look like a big slab of metal. I have a friend who is intrigued by the prospect of playing Death Guard and I think the new Codex and miniature might be enough to tip him over the edge.
Last but not least, the Thousand Sons are getting something a bit different. They don't get a new leader but they do get these esoteric robots that once served the Thousand Sons in their masses back during their glory days.
Sekhetar Robots // Warhammer 40,000
These towering mechanical constructs are used to guard sites of power but also protect their sorcerer masters in battle. They are inscribed with spells allowing them to remain hidden before they unleash their arcane-enhanced weaponry on the foe. Burn your enemies with mutating flame or pound them with hellfyre missiles.
All of these miniatures will be coming out alongside the respective Codexes and in these Army Sets. It shouldn't be long until they are dominating the battlefield.

Poxwrought Vector // Warhammer 40,000
Warpflame Thrallband // Warhammer 40,000
Whilst these will be the first place to get the new miniatures, they will be available later on general sale. It's still a shame that Games Workshop do this, punishing existing players of a faction to buy a bunch of miniatures they don't want/need if they'd like to just get the new units for their army along with everyone else.
Return To Armageddon
The powers of Chaos are making themselves known by returning to a well-trodden battlefield this year. Armageddon will play host to the machinations of the Red Angel himself and the World Eaters will find themselves drawn into battle against the likes of the Astra Militarum, Space Wolves and Grey Knights.
Crusade: Armageddon // Warhammer 40,000
All of this will be detailed inside a new Crusade book, allowing you to play out narrative campaigns set around the fresh attacks on Armageddon. New, game-changing abilities and more will be included in the supplement for those who like stepping away from the Matched Play environment to try something new and different with a bit more of a relaxed, story-based twist.
One faction I mentioned that will be popping up on Armageddon is that of the Grey Knights who will be getting themselves a new Codex soon.
Codex: Grey Knights // Warhammer 40,000
Whilst a new Codex is great, it doesn't seem like the Grey Knights are going to be getting the range refresh that everyone hoped they would. Their miniatures will remain, unfortunately, smaller than their Primaris battle brothers, even their Terminators!
They are getting one new update. The Grey Knight's baby carrier, known as the Nemesis Dreadknight, will get a new upgrade sprue included which allows you to give your Grand Master the choice of a Nemesis Flail and Nemesis Mace.

Nemesis Dreadknight - Details // Warhammer 40,000
A powerful new set of daemon-killing weapons but it's still unfortunate that the Dreadknight (and by extension, the rest of the Grey Knights range) retain that awkward, older feel of miniatures from past editions.
Reworking an entire range is no easy matter but it just makes me wonder why they didn't hold off on the Grey Knights until much later in the edition and instead give them a proper refresh? We still might get one but this seems like an unfortunate moment for Grey Knight collectors or potential collectors.
Updated Rules
You are also going to be able to get a couple of new sets for Matched Play in Warhammer 40,000 covering the rest of this year and 2026. A new Mission Deck forms the focal point.
2025-26 Mission Deck // Warhammer 40,000
The biggest change is that the new Mission Deck caters for three forms of play. You will find the traditional 2000-point Strike Force missions in there but they have also tweaked rules for specific 1000-point Incursion games (my preferred level of play). There are also Asymmetric War games where you will find very different scenarios to play.
Incursion games have new unit restrictions as well as alternative deployments tailored to smaller games. Asymmetric War gives you new challenges to consider and uneven deployment zones alongside different primary objectives.
Secret Missions have also been replaced by Challenger cards, which means that someone trailing by at least six Victory Points can close the gap and make some intriguing tactical choices in order to get back into the game.
There is also a new Objective Set on the way.
2025-26 Objective Set // Warhammer 40000
Made out of a flexible PET material, these can be added to the battlefield so you'll never wonder if someone is in or out of an objective. I think I prefer the clear ones from other independent companies as they work with any battlefield. These probably cost an arm and a leg as well.
That is a LOT of Warhammer 40,000. What do you think?
"The Grey Knight's baby carrier, known as the Nemesis Dreadknight, will get a new upgrade sprue. Great..."

Scrolling down thinking to myself: Nurgle never looked better. And then comes Nemesis Dreadknight. What a stupid design. Put the squishy vulnerable part in front of all. I thought we left that behind? XD
My brother said it looks like a baby carrier, and now I can’t not see it! 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣👍
Mechanized Baby Carriers … 😀
Papoose Mk III
The Grey Knights look as stupid as always. That giant man-robot thing looks like a bad Marvel villain design.
The Chaos stuff… awesome as always. I have a huge Thousand Sons army sitting new in boxes to build. I’ll have to see the new robots scaled to something first I think.
Looks like the Marines come up to about their shoulders, judging by the cover of the Warpflame Thrallband up there.
Not super-huge, but it’s nice to see Ahriman’s boys getting some new stuff.
Ah, now I see that pic. With a different paint scheme, these are going to be awesome.
Always love to see more robots, even if I’ll never use ’em!
The Grey Knights need a refresh to bring their models up to scale-creep size, so I don’t understand why they did not take the time or make the choice to just redesign; or better remove the baby-carrier altogether?
